II.
A soft, golden glow emerged, painting the sky with delicate brushstrokes.
As the sun climbed higher and shining thru the curtains, the two boys began to wake up. Lake woke up to Nathan moving a bit and placing his hand on Lake's chest. He opened his eyes to his friend softly yawning. Nathan was holding some parts of his shirt in his hand. He gently moved up from the couch , getting up to turn on his computer, light keyboard sounds and his mouse clicking. Even the sky was painted blue when Nathan finally woke up. He opened his eyes, seeing a cold light coming from the screen. Nathan looked up rubbing his eyes, as Lake glance over smiling.
"Rise and shine sleepyhead!"Nathan got up from lying down to sitting and turned his face away, checking for his fluffy friend. Lake just chuckled and paused the game, spinning his chair the other way.
"What's so funny, Lake?"
"Nothing, nothing. Zander is resting on my lap. Are you ready for the picnic this afternoon?"
He got up from his chair along with walked into the kitchen. A soft sigh escaped my lips as he filled the kettle with fresh, cold water. As he placed the kettle on the stove, the hiss and sizzle of the flame leapt to life. While the water gradually warmed, he reached for two porcelain mugs, he poured the hot tea into them.
Nathan rushed into his room to change clothes. He picked short pants and a T-shirt, while Lake wore a sleeveless hoodie and long pants. After finishing the warm liquid ,the two boys headed down to the school garden, where they came up to hang out with Kari around the benches and the small pond.Sitting underneath the blue sky, a checked blanket unfolded against the lush grass. They sat down in the grass. The sun was warm and shining bright, and the birds were singing. Nathan placed down his basket with the delicate pastries inside. Munching on the food, as the birds came closer for any crumbs that got dropped. They handed the birds some to eat, and Nathan pulled out a pack of chocolate-covered biscuit sticks. As he placed the cookie stick inside his mouth, Lake came closer and broke down a bit from the other side of the chocolate stick.
"It's tasty."
"Hey! Next time, give a warning, and don't eat my food!"
"No promises."
Nathan places another one in his mouth. Lake broke a bit the other end again and held his fingers against Nat's lips. Nathan's face turned red, the colour intensified with every passing second. His heart was beating faster than ever. With a small laugh, he tried to bring up a conversation to change topics.
Hours went by as they were having fun talking, on the other hand it was time to head back to the dorms. While proceeding to the rooms, Nathan got scared by a cat, his foot slipped and fell into the pond. Laughter erupted from both Lake and Karsen."Come on! Hey! It's not funny! Help me get out before I'll catch a cold."
He handed Nat his hand, while grabbing onto it, Nathan pulled him into the cold, watery pond. Both Nathan and Lake ended up soaking wet. They emerged from the water with loud laughter."You fucking bitch! Don't expect me to carry you home."
"Come on. I was only messing with you, Lake."
They grabbed the basket again and ran back into the rooms to dry themselves.
In the dorms, Lake helped drying Nathan's hair. For the time being, their clothes were hung up onto the drying racks. Later on Nathan decided to work on some projects in his room, and Lake practiced playing with his guitar in the living room. As the day drew to a close, the sun's light began its slow descent toward the horizon. Golden hues stretched across the rooms. As the sun disappeared completely, leaving only the echoes of the sunset's beauty remaining along with that darkness settled in. The dim world had witnessed the completion of a magical moment, a reminder that even as one chapter ends, another is waiting to be written. Nat left his room to grab food, only to find Lake chilling on the couch. After eating, Nathan sat on the sofa and tried to bring up what was with this day." You could have told me if you were going to pull tricks like this on me."
"But it was fun stealing food from you, because you always get grumpy if i taste your snacks.
"Those were my chocolates."
-"You sure? That means no sleeping in my room, since it's my bed?"
"Never mind. You have a better bed"
-"Seems like it's decided. Your snacks are mine now."
"Leave some for me."
Nathan's sleepy expression caught Lake's attention. They proceeded to head into Lake's room, lying on the big dark bed. The bedsheets and blankets smelled like Nathan, seems like this isn't the first time that he is staying there. Nat kept stealing the blanket while lying next to Lake. Before you know it they were falling asleep throughout only wearing just a simple hoodie. They were sound asleep as a black shadow walked past them in the middle of the night, with a graceful leap Zander's paws met fabric. The cat's presence settled upon the bed. As a result, soft purring filled the room.
That being said the clock on the wall struck 2 am. Outside this house, the world is in a peaceful slumber. Is listening to stories make hours pass in seconds? Moments pass by and the hour hand just keeps moving on. Just hold on a bit my friend, seems like you already fell asleep, just like them.Sleep well my companion.
