Yeah, you think you know makeup but chances are you don't. Don't worry, I didn't know for like the longest time.

Not everyone wears it for the right reason, or the right way, or even know simple yet important techniques that will save both time and money. This is where I come in. You're welcome.

THE USE.

First off, makeup is there to highlight your best features while "hiding" what makes you most self-conscious.

For example, I have high cheekbones and naturally high arched eyebrows. Therefore, I use light pink blush on the apples of my cheeks and feather the blush along my cheekbones. It makes them pop more and takes away from my huge forehead and huge chin. I also fill in my eyebrows for more definition and to take away attention from my forehead.

I'm not hiding what I think are flaws. I am merely distracting from them instead of changing my smile or hair to hide what I don't like about my face.

Smart right? This way, you spend less money on things that hide your "flaws."

THE CATCH.

There's always a catch. Get used to it.

Take acne for example. Acne hides your inner and outer beauty and we cant have that! Thank God for liquid foundation, powder foundation, green eyeshadow, and concealer. Why green eyeshadow? Well I'm getting to that. Patience is a virtue, you know!

Anyways, follow these steps and you'll be sure to look good AND natural.

1. Use primer if needed or if you want. It helps but isn't necessary (so don't follow this step if you don't want to!)

2. Liquid foundation is your best friend (choose a shade that is one to two shades lighter than your own. This hides creases and scars better. Don't go darker as it only makes these look more prominent.) Put this on as an all over base. This immediately gets rid of some redness and unevenness cause by acne.

3. Powder foundation works wonders. Always look for a shade that is the same as your liquid foundation or on shade lighter. This helps you look airbrushed and soaks up some possible oils.

*if you think all of the redness is gone then you don't have to finish the rest of these steps. Happy readings!*

4. Green is the color opposite red on a color wheel. So green eyeshadow gets rid of the redness left by acne. Just put a little on a flat brush, like a crease brush or eyeliner brush, and smooth it over the red, irritated skin.

5. Concealer. Needs to be the same shade. End of story. No exceptions. Stop right there if you want to rebel against that. If it is darker, it looks like age spots. If it is lighter, it isn't as noticeable but you'll feel self conscious. Dab a little concealer and blend in short strokes. NOT in circles. Maybe even just dab the concealer into place to blend. No circles. None of that nonsense.

6. Blend it all together by taking the powder and sprinkling it over the concealed area to blend and airbrush.

There you go. It seems like a long time but should take no more than 5 minutes. (Ok maybe 6).

MISCONCEPTIONS.

There are many misconceptions about makeup. How do I choose the color for me? Why should I wear it? Who should I wear it for?

Thankfully, I have those questions answered through 17 years of being a girl and meditating (ok blogging) as well as almost 4 full years of high school. You're welcome.

First up is equipment. You don't need sponges. These are great for stage makeup and costume makeup. Not so good for an everyday look. They are too harsh and sometimes harder to cover up mistakes.

Brushes are lovely tools and you should marry them (mentally of course!) But in all seriousness, brushes rock!

To apply foundation, brushes work for powder (duh) and your finger works for liquid. The heat from your finger works wonders to spread that goopy nonsense all over your gorgeous face. You have more control and you will blend better.

Airbrushing is also fab, but they can get pricey so I don't recomend it if you are on a tight budget. You can still be flawless and not break the bank.

Makeup should also be worn for your sake. No one else's. If it is to impress a boy, honey he ain't worth it! Makeup should be worn to highlight those peepers and other assets! If you think you look good, you feel good, which makes you feel even better!

Let me reiterate. A boy isn't worth it. If he doesn't see how special you are, he is losing out.
