"Miss? Miss, please wake up!" A female voice echoed in my ears. I lifted my head slowly, as a sharp pain shot through my entire body and met a nurse's worried eyes. She helped me to my feet, holding onto me for balance. 'We should have a doctor look at you. Do you remember what happened, Miss?"
My mind was a complete blank. Why was I here? Was I here to see someone? "I...I don't know. Uh, I..I think I need to go"
"You're not going anywhere. A doctor is going to look at you, then you're going to get some rest." She found the nearest doctor who directed us to the nearest and most empty room, then she helped me into a bed to wait. The doctor arrived seconds later with a clipboard in his hand. "Doctor Edward, this young girl was found unconscious on the floor. Actually, I never got your name. What is your name?"
"Uh, it's...." as I was about to answer, my cellphone vibrated in my pocket. "Hello?"
"Hey, Em," a male voice said. "How's Kiara doing? Is she resting?"
Kiara? Who's Kiara? And who am I talking to? "Uh, I'm sorry, who are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb, Em. Kiara's our sister. She's our family and she needs to stay safe"
This Kiara is family? Am I...am I talking to my brother? "Listen whoever you are. I'm guessing we're related too. I don't remember anything about a Kiara. I'm not even sure why I'm here at the hospital. My head hurts like hell and I don't know why!"
'I'm on my way, Em. Try to relax"
"Is any family on the way?" Doctor Edward wondered. I nodded. "Your brother, i assume. Maybe he can help us with the information we need"
My brother or so he claimed arrived at the hospital in a matter of minutes. He stood before me with anger in his eyes and arms crossed against his chest. "Em, there you are! What the fuck happened?"
"Exactly what we're trying to figure out," the doctor intervened as my mouth hung open to answer. "She doesn't seem to remember anything. She's unsure why she's even here. I found her unconscious on the hospital floor"
My brother reached out for me grasping my hand. "Em, you came here to visit Kiara, remember?" I shook my head no. "Em, try to remember. Give yourself time"
He pulled me in close to his chest, tears rolled down my cheek. "I'll try. But it's difficult. My mind is all fuzzy. I can't remember much, even your name"
"My name is Drew. I'm yours and Kiara's brother. I'll be here by your side until you're fully recovered"
I felt a hand placed on my left shoulder, I turned to face Doctor Edward. 'Everything Emaly has said seems to be the result of a concussion. Though there is a bruise on your left cheek. Looks like you might have hurt yourself somehow. We'll keep you overnight for observation "
"Great," Drew said staring into my eyes. 'Maybe getting some rest will give you answers"
"I hope so," I told him.
After getting an xray done, Doctor Edward's conclusion turned out to be true. I had a concussion. I needed to be under observation for the night and asked for Drew to stay with me. He sat on the chair beside my bed, flipping through the channels looking for something to watch. "OK, Drew for real, you've gotta pick something "
"I can't, Em. Everything on TV right now is crap." He threw the remote onto the small table beside him. "I might just go visit Kiara. What room is she....? Never mind"
Drew left the room, leaving me alone in the darkness. I held the second pillow close to my chest, punching it in frustration. Why couldn't I remember anything? What had caused my concussion? Had I fallen or tripped? Hell if I know. I settled into bed, fighting to keep my eyes open until I no longer could. A voice, a female voice echoed over and over. I didn't recognize it even when she called out my name. She stood faintly infront of me. Her light brown hair was floating around her, surrounding her face like a halo. The clothing she wore was torn to Shreya and covered in what I'm guessing was her own blood that also covered parts of her face. She reached out for me, as she softly whispered "Emaly, help me!"
I jumped in fright, screaming at the top of my lungs. Drew rushed into my room, stopping at the edge of my bed to catch his breath. "What's wrong, Em? Did you remember something?"
"I...I don't know. I saw someone in my dreams," I whimpered. "She might have...she might have been Kiara "
"What'd Kiara say, Em? Tell me, Em," Drew begged now sitting beside me.
"All she said was 'Emaly, help me.' But I'm still not sure it was Kiara "
"Well, Dax should know about your dream." He got up on his feet heading for the door. "Stay here, I'll be right back"
I was left alone again, replaying the dream in my mind. Was it Kiara whoever she was trying to reach out to talk to me? Or was it someone else? My eyes fought to stay open again, so I hesitantly fumbled to my feet to get something to drink. I didn't want a repeat of the dream and figured the best way to avoid it was to stay awake.
The hallway was empty for the most part, except for a few patients here and there. I finally found a soda machine filled with different varieties of pop and chips. Luckily, I found my favorite soda but soo realized I needed some money. I had to find Drew. He had gone to see someone named Dax. Hopefully, he's here in the hospital too.
I glimpsed into almost every room, coming up short with no sign of Drew. My feet stopped at the end of the hall, thanks to a sudden pain that ran through my entire body. I dropped to my knees, realizing i didn't have the strength to carry on much further. Something in my mind prevented me from moving. I needed Drew here now. "Em?" Someone yelled from behind me before appearing by my side. I turned my head slightly, soon meeting Drew's eyes. "Em, why are you out of bed?"
He helped me back up on my feet, I nearly collapsed again until he held me tight in his arms. "I got thirsty and didn't want to be alone. Did you find Dax?"
"Yeah, I did," he sighed. "Dax isn't happy to be stuck here. He's on the mend, though "
"Can I speak to him?" I asked.
"Why would you want to speak to Dax, Em? You barely remember how you got hurt or who Kiara is"
"Just take me to him," I ordered.
"OK, ok," Drew laughed before attempting to lift me. "You aren't taking another step. I'll carry you instead." We reached Dax's room in a matter of seconds, Drew set me on my feet then helped me inside. Dax sat in his bed with an IV in his right arm with his eyes closed. "Boss, Em wants to talk to you"
He blinked a couple times to focus, then met my eyes. "Emaly, why the sudden visit? Are you in here too? Did you get hurt?"
"Yes, I did. Except I can't remember how. Anyway, Dax, how are you holding up?"
"Uh good, I guess considering," he sighed. "Did Uh, Kiara come with you? Where is she?"
"Boss, Kiara isn't here," Drew told him.
"Will she be coming later then?"
I sighed holding onto Drew's arm for support. "No, Dax, whoever this Kiara person is she won't be coming later"
"Em," Dax leaned forward. 'Do you know something I don't? And why did you just say 'this Kiara person?' She's your best friend. Don't be a fucking moron!""
Drew stepped between us. "Boss, now you've gone too far. Apologize to Emaly"
I suddenly felt dizzy, unable to see either of the guys before collapsing to the floor. Drew caught me before I hit my head again. I blinked a couple times then partially focused. "I...I remember"
"What do you remember?" Drew wondered.
"Kiara. I remember who she is. " I looked up, meeting Dax's curious eyes. "And I'm afraid you won't want to hear who took her"
