Chapter 15

  The next morning was dark as Rengoku helped Y/N wake up. Silently he slid open the door to her quarters, whispered into her ears, and gently brought her up so that she could still greet the moon. Together, they got prepared as Rengoku prepared the items he would need and Y/N got dressed up into a uniform similar to her Hashira's. Her own Haori had been custom made to allow her much better movement and was embroidered with wisteria flowers and stars. As the two began to finish up, Tengen came in to check on the two.

  "Hope you two aren't causing any trouble this morning? Sun's barely up and we still have to traverse the gorgeous countryside." The tall male chuckled and walked over to ruffle Rengoku's hair and take Y/N's hand to which he delivered to it a kiss. Y/N smiled at him, her eyes were still barely open despite having been up for a while. Tengen caught sight of this and stepped forward allowing her to lean on him. He smiled and ran a hand along with her head, stroking it and keeping her messy hair down. It wasn't a surprise either when she nearly fell asleep. "No no, Y/N. We need you wide awake for us when we leave." He gave the girl a shake making her wake up drowsy-eyed. Quickly and skillfully, he tied her Haori up nearly, picked her up, and together, Uzui, Rengoku, and Y/N all walked out to where Mitsuri would be meeting them...except...she wasn't there.

  "Where is Kanroji? She's supposed to be leaving with us?" Before Rengoku could look anywhere else, a crow with a beautiful flower in its head swooped down and landed and the ground before them before shouting. 

  "CAW CAW! Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji will not be present due to a demon attack South! Head to the previous residence of Y/N! CAW CAW!" Tengen held Y/N close hoping she could hear the corvid's loud and obnoxious calls. She twisted only a little under his hold before settling down again. The two Hashira exchanged a nod as the crow flew off. They began to walk out in silence. Past the gate to the mansion, through the bounds of the headquarters, past the tall trees and few estates nestled close to the master himself, and finally, past the wisteria forests which almost seemed to glow beneath the fading moonlight. And as they made their way past the last line of defense which divided the threats of demons and the legion of slayers, Rengoku and Uzui took a deep breath and crossed the threshold to the other side.

  "We need to head to the country path, that'll lead us to the greater road. Then we find the row of Cyrpresses and we head North." Rengoku said with pride as he finally was able to remember the complicated directions. The Flame Hasira looked to the Ninja before looking to the sleeping female in his arms. 

  "She's well asleep by now, if we're quick we'll be there by sundown." Tengen tightened his hold on her so he'd be able to run better with her figure to him. Rengoku however couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy. However, despite being against Tengen's hold, he knew he wouldn't be able to carry her proficiently. 

  "Let's move!" Tengen smiled as a moment later the two Hashira began to tear it down the path. Together, they went over forged paths, moss-covered stones, running creeks, and bridges, and finally, they found a long and forgotten road lined with Hinoki cypress. Gorgeous, tall, and a beautiful bright green which occasionally caught rays of sunlight making it appear like twine was being sewn between the trees. As much as they wished to stop and enjoy the view, they had to continue. But as they made their way on, Y/N only seemed to get further away.

  It was just as she had left it, only now everything seemed just a little more perfect. The table was set, the food was piping hot, and across from her was her father, smiling and happy.
