‘’Good morning beautiful.’’ I heard a familiar voice come from behind me soon before I felt two strong arms wrapping around me from behind. A couple of lips softly pressing on my shoulder, his warm breath caressing - slightly tickling- my skin.
‘’Good morning.’’ I answered a smile curling up on my lips. I turned around looking right into the deep brown eyes I loved so dearly. I leaned in slowly pressing my lips on his my hand finding its way up in to his messy brown hair. The kiss was about to turn heavy when I heard a cough coming from the kitchen doorway.
‘’Might wanna turn that down a bit sweet pie. Parental supervision.’’ My dad chuckled as he walked in and sat down at our kitchen island. My mother followed soon behind her look showing nothing but disgust with my boyfriend.
My mom never tried to hide how much she despised the lip rings, messy hair, bandshirts and skinny jeans. She had never even bothered to look past the fact that Drew actually was a really sweet guy.
‘’How’s breakfast coming along? I’m starving and since it’ll be my last home made meal for a while I certainly can’t wait.’’ My dad tried to break the tension between my mom and I.
‘’Almost done.’’ I replied before turning back around focusing on the pans I had containing eggs, pancakes, bacon and toast. All my dad’s favorites. It had become a habit for me to make breakfast on my dad’s deployment day. And since that was today I was already up and done in the kitchen.
I sighed softly as I stared into the pan. Even though I loved this family breakfast thing and I loved pretty much everything I was about to put on the table I hated this day. My dad was going to get deployed. He’d be gone for about half a year and when he’d return we were going to be moving across the country to a new army base.
Moving, yet again.
‘’Cheer up sweet pie, I’m just leaving for a little while, the world isn’t ending.’’ My dad said as he popped up next to me with a bowl and a few plates.
‘’Come on let’s eat before you kill that pancake with that daggered look.’’ He shoved the eggs into the bowl before putting everything else in place.
My dad had been talking all through breakfast, telling me how lovely the pancakes were, how I was supposed to behave when he was deployed, talking about school, about our new house which was currently renovated. He wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved the place. He actually was really excited for this move. It was almost 11 a.m. now meaning we had to get to the airport. I was dreading this moment, departure, crying kids, emotional wives, barking dogs, silent parents holding onto each other for dear life. All because of a loved one getting deployed. I would be one of them today, I’d be standing in that crowd crying my eyes out.
My dad and I were really close, I’d say he was my best friend in the whole world and every time he left me I felt like a part of me was dying, a part that wouldn’t come back to life until I had him back in my arms the day of his return.
My mom was standing at the door holding a small purse that matched her coat perfectly. She seemed to be dreading this moment as much as I was. My dad came walking down the stairs holding a bag in his hand and smiling down at us.
