I laid awake unable to sleep. For the 3rd night in a row.
The familiar sounds of drums and guitar riffs came from the apartment next to mine, and it hadn't been a nuisance until the ungodly noises started disturbing my sleep pattern.
"That's it." I said to myself, angrily. I got up and threw on a jeans and a hoodie so I wouldn't have to face our neighbours in my pyjamas.
Once I was outside, I knocked on the door once.
No answer. Still guitar riffs and drums.
Twice.
No answer.
Three times.
The noises stopped all at once, and I heard a raspy voice say "I'll get it,"
Finally.
A tall, thin boy answered the door, he had tired dark circles underneath his dull eyes, as well as dark clothes and unruly hair.
"Can I help you?" He said, looking me up and down.
"Um, I was wondering if you could..uh..keep it down?"
Suddenly my confidence disappeared and I felt like a helpless teenager in this man's presence.
"Yeah, sorry," he said and swung the door shut.
Just as I was about to turn around, the door swung open again.
"Have we met before?" The boy asked. Oh god, he was stepping out into hall.
"I don't think so," I replied, staring at my shoes. Something I did when I was anxious.
"I'm Matthew, but call me Matty." He flashed me a smirk.
"I'm Violet," I said timidly.
"Quite the shy one, are you?" He teased.
My cheeks turned red and I let out a nervous laugh.
"Good night, Violet. See you around,"
He disappeared back into his apartment.
That was the most awkward situation I have ever experienced. Ever.
I changed back into my pyjamas and crawled into bed, covering my head with the sheets.
