"What about an ancient kingdom?" Sitting on the console, I watched the doctor pilot the tardis with skill. Liking her idea, I jumped down and nod.
"Sounds good." She raised her eye brows playfully, pulling down a lever which caused the ship to land with a jolt. I connected our hands as we left, stepping out onto the bright planet. The sun was deceiving though as it was actually freezing compared to how it looked.
"Shouldn't we have changed into more suitable clothes?" I asked as we walked in sync, arms swinging slightly.
"No. Besides, you already look like a princess to me." Blushing, I kept my head down so she didn't see my reaction. It was quiet, no one around which made me feel a little on edge. Sensing this, the doctor pulled me close as we got to a set of doors that lead to a Palace of some sort.
"I dont understand, this should be a bustling city. Unless i got the date wrong?" She spoke out, leading us inside where, again, there was no one in sight. Spotting a computer of some kind, the doctor rushed over to check the data base.
"Can I explore?" Humming, she kept her eyes on the screen.
"Yes but don't go too far." I head through a door at the end of a hallway and found myself in a throne room. It was beautiful, marble walls and a diamond throne by the looks of it. Intrigued, I ran my fingers along the arm rest and smiled.
"Pretty, isn't it?" A man's voice came from behind me. Slowly, I turned to see a man smirking. He was wearing clothes of a king with a sash hanging round his body. Dark eyes scanned over me for a moment before he scratched at his stubble.
"How did a precious little thing like you get here?" Sauntering on over to me, the man was just a little taller but still intimidating. Keeping a straight face, I shrugged.
"With my friend." Scoffing, he took a seat on the throne and clasped his hands together.
"You're one of her pets aren't you?" His voice held a mocking tone but i didn't let it affect me.
"She's not a cat, master." The doctor walked in, quickly coming to my side. My eyes darted between the pair, a tense atmosphere settling.
"If you're here to stop me, you're too late." A slight pout formed on her lips as she tucked her hands into her pockets.
"Nope. This event is fixed. Can't change it even if I wanted to." Her sleeves were rolled up to her elbows, a cocky look in her eyes. All together she looked really good.
"Who's this then?" The master probed, looking me up and down. Insecure, I wrapped my arms around myself.
"I'm Marie." Sucking on his teeth, the man got up and stepped closer. The doctor placed her hands on my shoulders and pulled me back into her.
"Relax I won't hurt her. She seems different." Relaxing into her hold, she made a noise of agreement.
"Check her pulse." Cautiously, I lifted my arm up for him. He held my wrist with one hand and used the other to press two fingers to the pulse point. Eyes going wide, the master gaped at us.
"How is that possible?" Seeing as he was still holding my wrist, the doctor detached him from me with ease.
"I dont know, I don't remember." I told him, praying that my brain could just work but it didn't.
"Do you happen to have a fob watch?" Shocked, I looked at him with big eyes.
"Yes, it was my mother's apparently." Feeling an arm around my shoulder, I looked up to meet the doctors eyes.
"I should of asked that. Slipped my mind." Confused, I rested my head on her chest and took a deep breath.
"Why?"
"Its a chameleon arch. It basically holds all of your memories. Open it and you'll have them back pet." The doctor let out a quiet growl as the pet name slipped passed his lips. Something about him was enticing but for the wrong reason. To me, he came across as a theater villan.
"We should go." She announced, taking me towards the door as fast as she could. Behind us, I could hear him laughing and it was patronising. When we were out of reach, I looked up to the blonde woman.
"Who is he?" Unlocking the door, the doctor held it open for me to step inside.
"Someone I grew up with. We grew apart." Oh, that must be her frenimy. Deciding to leave it, I rubbed my eyes with a sigh. Without thinking, I hugged onto the doctors waist gently, my face pressed into her shoulder.
"Are you Okay Marie?" Clearly worried for me, I smiled shyly to myself. Grateful that she couldn't see the blush, I mumbled-
"Perfect."It was late. Well, I guess it's never actually late when you're in space, but it felt late. In my hands, I held the fob watch and observed its every detail. For my whole life this watch had been nothing more than an accessory to me. Now? Now I could practically hear my former self whispering to me.
"Can't sleep?" Lifting my head up to gaze at the door, the doctor stood there- coatless. Closing the door, she came and sat on the edge of the bed. I shook my head at her and clutched the watch to my chest.
"I'm too scared to open it." Nodding in understanding, the doctor carefully came to sit beside me.
"You don't need to. Take your time okay?" She took it from my hands and placed it on the table next to me. Keeping her arms open, I took the invitation and placed my head on her chest. Listening to her hearts made my whole body relax.
"If you're ever feeling overwhelmed or like you could self combust, you can always come to me. I'll be here to listen. Or to hold you. Or both?" A giggle escaped before I could stop it. Grinning, the doctor poked at my waist softly.
"There we go. A happy sound." Not being able to surpress the smile, I looked up to see she was just the same.
"Stay with me?" Without question, she pulled the covers up over us. Arms still wrapped around me, it took seconds for me to fall asleep. After waking up, I left the sleeping doctor and head into the library. Taking a seat by the crackling fire, I opened up a book and let my eyes wonder over the circular patterns. Slowly, my brain began to pick them up and I was able to read most of the words. A smile broke out over my face. Footsteps were making there way towards me but I didn't look up, to amazed.
"You look happy?" Grabbing her wrist, I pulled the doctor down so she was sat on the sofa beside me.
"I can read it." I spoke gleefully and even read some of the page out to prove my point. It was so exciting to me.
"Wow, it's been a long time since I heard someone talking gallifreyan. Your pronunciation is beautiful." Freezing, I felt myself go red at her words. She just chuckled and pulled me closer.
"Read to me. I'll help you." Losing a little confidence, I began to read the story again. Every so often the doctor would correct tone or tenses but apart from that, everything went smoothly. About half an hour later, my stomach began to grumble.
"Come on." The doctor practically picked me up before putting me down and taking me to the kitchen. It was surprisingly clean compared to the other parts of the ship, which just lead me to believe one thing.
"I'm guessing you can't cook?" Baffled, she got suddenly defensive.
"What? No! I'm not that bad. Maybe..." I found it adorable though and just laughed lightly. Sitting her on one of the chairs, I looked around for a minute.
"I'll cook don't worry doc." As I got to work cooking, she watched with a grin. Having to leave something to cook, I stood in front of the blonde.
"Can I get my memories back bit by bit? I want to try." Reaching up to hold my hand, the doctor smiled reassuringly.
"Of course. I think that's a good idea." Relacing, I dished the food out and ate quickly.
