Fire and Station 19

Robert

"Engine 19 and Ladder 19 requested to 52 Overland Avenue, structure fire in progress."

Warren, Gibson, Montgomery, Beckett, Maya, and me quickly slid our Firefighter pants, boots, jackets, and helmets on.

Warren, Beckett and Maya got in Engine 19.

She was driving.

Gibson, Montgomery, and me got in Ladder 19.

Montgomery was driving.

Maya pulled out of Station 19.

Montgomery pulled out of Station 19.

They were driving to 52 Overland Avenue.

Maya

"This thing smell weird to you? Like someone left a cup of soup in here too long?" Warren questioned.

"And I don't even want to think about how many butts have sat in these seats." He told me.

"How did you know you wanted to be a Dad?"

"Uh..."

Warren chuckled.

"Well, I-- I didn't. I- I fell in love with a woman who had a son, so I was a Dad."

"Right. And Joey?"

"I fell in love with a woman who had such a big heart that she brought home another son without asking me first."

"Okay. 0 for 2."

"Yeah. Yeah."

Robert

We pulled up at 52 Overland Avenue.

"Uh... Uh... I'm the one who called." A woman told Beckett.

"Uh-huh."

"Hi. I was, uh... Making lunch for my kid. I heard a boom and I- I looked out and saw smoke."

"Is there anyone home?" He questioned.

"Uh... I don't think so. I- I don't even know who lives there. They've been remodeling for months."

"Thank you, ma'am."

The smoke was coming from the basement.

"Beckett, our access to the basement is the only flow path. We need ventilation." Maya informed him.

"Is that how firefighting works, Bishop?" Beckett questioned.

"You're gonna have to give me your TED talk one of these days." He told her.

"Okay. Warren, Bishop, make access to the first floor. You're gonna need to cut a heat hole down through the flooring. Gibson, Montgomery, Sullivan, you're on fire attack. Get in the basement and knock it down." Beckett gave his orders.

"One of these times, he's gonna get all of us killed." Maya whispered to me before we broke apart.

Maya

I opened the front door.

"Seattle Fire! Anyone here?" I called out.

We walked in the house.

I shut the front door.

There was muffled shouting.

"Doesn't look like anyone's doing any renovations." Warren gave his opinion.

"Hello!" He called out.

"Hey. Let's punch through by that window." I told Warren.

"Copy that."
