CHAPTER FIVE: the tell
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎
DAKARI STILINSKI SAT IN THE FRONT OF THE CRUSIER, FORCING STILES TO SIT IN THE BACK. He had just gotten off his shift, had his father had brother had gone to pick him up in order to have dinner together.
"Did they forget my curly fries?" Noah asked his sons.
Dakari shrugged. "I had enough interaction at work, Stiles went in and I gave him the money."
"You're not supposed to eat fries, especially the curly ones." Stiles told his father.
"Well, I'm carrying a lethal weapon. If I want the curly fries, I will have the curly fries." Noah tells his youngest son.
"If you think getting rid of contractions in all your sentences makes your argument any more legitimate, you are wrong."
"Here," Dakari held out his own bag. "They didn't put enough salt for me anyways."
"That's because you want half of a gallon of salt on your food," Stiles said.
Dakari glared, but his younger brother shrugged, making faces behind the screen.
"Unit one, do you copy?" Dispatch comes through.
"Unit one, copy." Noah replied.
"Got a report of a possible 187."
Stiles head snapped up, mouth filled with curly fries. "A murder?"
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎They pulled up to the video shop, seeing an ambulance already there, and a few deputies.
"Stay here." Noah ordered both his sons. "Paul legs get this area locked up.
The two brothers saw that Jackson was arguing with one of the EMT's before Noah walked up to him.
"No, you don't understand, which kind of blows my mind, since it should be a pretty basic concept to grasp for a minimum - wage rent - a - cop like you! Okay, now, I wanna go home!" Jackson yelled at Noah.
Before Dakari could snap at the other, and start to threaten him, Stiles spoke up. "Oh, whoa, is that a dead body?"
Noah glanced at his son, sighing. "Everybody back up. Back up."
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎"Remember," the math teacher spoke. "that tonight is parent/teacher night. Some of you will make your parents proud, some of you won't."
Dakari lowly chuckled, making it seem as though he was paying attention to the lesson-before it turned into the teacher trying to degrade them- then leaning towards Xavier. "Totally means you."
"For making my parents proud? Yes, you are correct. But, what will your father say about you?" Xavier shot back, sarcastically.
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎Dakari was worried. He wondered how upset Derek would be if he just showed up at the Hale house, after the other had gotten shot, Dakari found himself worrying more and more.
"Derek," he sighed when it went to voice mail. "Derek, could you just answer? Or even send a text? Honestly, at this point, I don't care if you call just to threaten to rip my throat out." He had called Derek earlier, but didn't leave a voicemail.
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎"Stiles," Dakari called, knocking on his brother's door. He entered. "Derek isn't answering any of my calls."
"So?" Stiles asked, not caring and a bit confused as to why his older brother was so worried. "When as he answered any calls?"
"I mean, not really." Dakari admitted, nervously scratching the back of his neck. "But, he normally at least picks up once. Yeah, he sounds a bit angry and annoyed-"
There was a knock at Stiles's door, immediately making Dakari go silent. The brothers turned, seeing their father. "Please tell me I'm gonna hear good news at this parent/teacher thing tonight."
"Depends on how you define "good news."" Stiles answered.
I define it as you getting straight A's with no behavioral issues."
"Of course," Dakari replied. "Although, I will want you now, that they may say that I speak a lot in their class."
"You might wanna rethink that definition." Stiles cringed.
"Nuff said." Noah walked out.
Stiles lifted up his phone, sighing loudly. "Come on, Scott. Where the hell are you?" Then he turned to Dakari. "Look at this."
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎"So, what Lydia saw, was possibly the Alpha?" Dakari looked at the video, Stiles then showing him the screen shot. Dakari sighed, looking down at his phone before picking it up again.
"Are you seriously going to call him? Again?" Stiles sighed.
"Shut up,Sti," Dakari muttered, ignoring the offended look Stiles had given him, and the yell of him hating the nickname. "Derek pick up. Seriously, you're an asshole. You are being hunted, so, I'd appreciate it if you at least picked up to call me annoying."
"Why would you want that?" Stiles questioned.
"Because, I think that's the only thing he'd said aside from threatening to rip out your throat," Dakari answers, sighing. "I swear to god if I find out you were just being an asshole," he muttered, but didn't say anything else as he left the voice mail.
✰︎✰︎Remember that night✰︎✰︎The two brothers had taken files on the Hale fire case.
"I sure hope this reveals something," Dakari muttered. "We need to know everything that happened if we're gonna stop the Alpha. And the hunters."
