The excessive dose of homework they had given the fourth-years for the holidays was so great that Jamie, Mia and Archie agreed to finish it before the break. Archer would have to go home on the same day as the other Hogwarts students, while Jay, Mia, and Lisa had to stay for the Ball. Either way, they all knew they would not have enough time to do it later.
The Durmstrang ship was hardly less crowded now than during term time, and the older students seemed to have twice more things to do and were looking busier than ever.
Mia was rarely seen hanging out around the ship and was always accompanied by Adrian, though Jay and Archie were with them pretty much all the time as they both had also befriended the older boy.
Snow was falling thickly upon the castle and its grounds now, and the pale blue Beauxbatons carriage looked like a chilly, frosted pumpkin next to the iced gingerbread house that was Hagrid cabin, while the Durmstrang ship portholes were glazed with ice, the rigging white with frost.
Jamie woke up earlier than usual on Christmas day. He looked around, confused, and took some time to recall that Archie had gone home, so he was not sharing a room with anyone for the time being. Jay quickly got up, started to get ready, and went to the common area to wait for Lisa and Mia to come down.
Lisa was the first to show up, with light blue pants, a warm black shirt, and her usual bright smile. Jay broke into a silly grin when he first saw her, walking up to the girl with a small package in his hand.
"Merry Christmas," he wished, placing a kiss on the corner of her lips.
Elisa smile.
"Merry Christmas," answered her, wrapping her boyfriend in a warm hug and accepting the package.
"Your present is at your dorm. Did you see it?" Lisa questioned softly, and Jamie denied it.
"I didn't open my presents yet. I wanted to give yours personally, so I decided to meet you before going through my stuff," explained Jay.
The blonde smiled.
She unwrapped the package and widened her eyes in surprise, moving her eyes back to Jamie.
"You told me you like necklaces, so I decided to hum... Get you one," spoke the boy, his cheeks slightly flustered.
"It's... Wonderful," whispered the girl in awe.
"Isn't it? And he chose it himself," a voice spoke up, and Jamie rolled his eyes with a smile.
"Morning, Mia," spoke Jamie, and Euphemia flashed her two friends a mischievous smirk.
"Merry Christmas, morons. Everybody ready for some great fun today?" sneered her, and Lisa laughed.
"You mean the Ball? Come on, Mia. It is not gonna be that bad," appeased her, and Euphemia rolled her eyes.
"There will be people at it, Lisa. That's a good enough reason for me to believe that this Ball; is gonna be complete hell," explained Mia, and Elisa laughed loudly.
"Plus, my parents will be there," agreed Jamie.
The blonde girl quickly scowled.
"Ignore them both. Your parents certainly deserve it," grumbled Elisa.
