Chapter 4: Erratic

"It hurts that you will never look at me the way I look at you" -unknown

Like an unexpected beat drop in a song- Alvita's flow of thoughts changes direction, and bypasses Yash instead of directly intercepting him. An invisible wall builds itself between them making Alvita disconnect from the person she thought she knew well. It was not distaste or aversion that made Alvita feel miles apart from him. Rather, it was these feelings that felt alien to her.

Something she never understood,

Something that put her in a dilemma,

It now encloses one of her closest friends, setting them apart (although it is her that Yash has these potential feelings for, he feels farther away).

They were on different radio frequencies, speaking another language.

"Alvita!" Yash calls out as if he were doing this for quite a while.

Alvita who was not listening to a word he was saying, quickly regains her composure, "Yes," she says with serious intent.

Yash says nothing for a second, a second that stretches for what feels like a long time, making Alvita wonder if she said something wrong. It would be embarrassing if she agreed with something that Yash wanted her to disagree with.

But Yash bursts out laughing.

"God, I must have bored you with all that basketball talk!"

Alvita internally sighs in relief, as if she made it through a tough level in a video game.

But this time she does not miss the way he looks at her. She always believed that he was mindful, but now that she takes a closer look, she notices that he is very attentive toward her. It was like slowly solving a puzzle, finding keys and answers throughout the process. The pieces were shifting and falling into their rightful places. At times Alvita felt as though Yash knew her better than she knew herself. She felt seen and understood. But now, that knowledge burdened her.

Small moments come back like whiplash.

The memories of Yash taking away mushroom soup (mushroom, Alvita's mortal enemy) and replacing it with more red pasta. He claimed that he loved mushroom soup and couldn't get enough of it, at that time she didn't think much of it. Now that she takes a closer look, red pasta was one of Yash's favorite dishes, and to think that he would give that up for her?

Food is everything- that was the ultimate sacrifice.

Sacrifice was one of the things that she detested in a relationship. Each person (in a relationship) is under pressure to carry the weight of responsibility for one another. This pressure is what people gradually crumble under.

Do you lose yourself in a relationship?

It was all these questions that she no longer wanted to worry about...
