Luca's POV:
I walked along the beach's small, warm rocks as the bright sun shined down on me. I closed my eyes and breathed in the salty air that was full of the smell of the ocean. I loved this place, it was the place where I first met Alberto, so it was really special. We were just 13 when we first met, and now we were 18. Five amazing years of friendship that I hoped would never end.
" Luca! Luuuuca!"
I opened my eyes and turned around to locate the source of the sound. I looked up on the hill towards Alberto's tower, where I saw him standing and waving at me. I smiled and waved back. He climbed down and ran up to me.
" You ready to go back to Porto Rosso?" he asked.
I nodded, and we walked back towards the tower and the hill we used to build vespas near. We looked at each other, then ran down the hill and jumped off into the air! As we fell we laughed and screamed, then we hit the water. Immediately we transformed into our sea monster forms, and we started swimming towards Porto Rosso.
" Bet you can match this!" I told him, and swam up towards the surface, launched out of the water and made a backflip.
" Really good, really good, but watch the pro doing trix," Alberto said smugly.
He charged up and sped out of the water, making several flips before landing perfectly back in the water.
" You call that a trick? Watch this!" I laughed.
I charged up and swam towards the surface when I noticed a dark spot moving closer.
" LUCA, LOOK OUT!" Alberto yelled, but it was too late.
I shot out of the water and collided with a boat that was sailing out. The last I saw was the front of the boat, before I blacked out.
Alberto's POV:
" LUCA, LOOK OUT!" I yelled, but it was too late.Luca's face smacked into the front of the boat and then he fell back into the water. I started panicking as I saw how Luca started sinking. I wasn't worried about him drowning, duh, but I was worried that he was seriously hurt. I swam up to him as fast as I could, holding him in my arms.
" Luca! LUCA, wake up!" I yelled, shaking him to try and wake him up. "LUCA, PLEASE!"
I was about to cry, when he finally opened his eyes.
" Oh thank the fishes, you are okay!" I sighed out in relife.
" Y-Yeah, I'm fine... Ow, my head hurts," Luca groaned.
" Come, let's get you back to the village," I told him.
I placed his arm over my shoulders, and placed my hand on his waist. We then slowly started swimming towards the mainland.
" I guess we never grew out of doing stupid things..." Luca laughed weakly.
" Yeah, I guess so," I smiled.
About five minutes later we were back at the shore of Porto Rosso, and I carefully helped Luca get up. We got a few weird looks from the people walking around on the streets, but people didn't seem to care that much. Sea monsters do regularly come here nowadays, so I guess us coming here didn't seem that strange. I carefully helped Luca sit down on a nearby bench as we transformed into our human forms.
" Do you feel better now?" I asked him.
" Yeah, I am. Thanks, man," he smiled.
" No problem," I said.
We sat on the bench for a while, just letting the sun shine down on us. I looked over at Luca as the sun shined perfectly at his adorable face, and I got that warm and tickling feeling again, just like I always do...
Later that day
Luca's POV:
I looked out the window from my room in our little apartment. Yeah, we had an apartment now, Alberto, Giulia and I. It had a good view of both the ocean and the little village. I kinda just stood there, thinking back to all the good memories we three had had together. I smiled.
" Hey Luca, I heard you were in an accident. You feel better yet?"
I turned around and saw Giulia standing in the doorway. She was also 18 now, and had found a really good job at the seaport that included delivering fish and other sea products that arrived with the incoming boats. The money she got helped us get enough to find our own place. Of course me and Alberto were going to find jobs soon, because of course we too have to help.
" Oh, yeah, I feel better now," I told her and smiled.
" Well, just wanted to check on ya'," she smiled back." I'll be heading down to the seaport to take care of some business, see ya'!"
" See you later, Giulia!" I said and waved at her as she left.
Now I was all alone again. It was pretty calming hearing nothing but the birds chirping and the faint sound of kids playing on the streets. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Yep, this was life.
