Kazunari had honestly been really surprised when, after a month and a half of sneaking around, his father still had not found out where he was going. He was sure he at least had an idea, but he didn't have any proof. Satoshi and him never kissed or made any affection towards each other in public, only when they were at Satoshi's house. And Kazunari, as long as he lived, would never take any of it back. He loved it when Satoshi held his hand, when he kissed gently and passionately, and when they would go farther without doing the deed.
That was what Kazunari was afraid of. Not the sex, but the thought that maybe if they did go that far then his father would find out. Satoshi couldn't protect him like he said he would. He was too weak and couldn't work a sword. Kazunari knew that if anyone were to protect him, it would have to be him himself. No one else.
Yet, every time he would think of his father, he would just lay in Satoshi's embrace and close his eyes. It was the only time he felt truly protected and safe, and that was mainly why the late night stays at Satoshi's house would be longer and longer. He hated his father, but not as much as he feared him. He was afraid, and he couldn't do anything about it.
On days when Satoshi would go to work on the fishermen's boat, Kazunari would just sit at home waiting for him. Sometimes Naru would make him some tea to make sure he wasn't as lonely. Then, one day, Satoshi came home beaming. "Today was my last day of fishing before winter," he told Kazunari. "I get to be with you more often now."
Kazunari couldn't help but smile. "That's great," he said. "More time I can be with you."
Naru laughed quietly. "You two are so cute together."
"That's because I love him," Satoshi told his sister, who only smiled as wide as she could.
That night, as the two men lay in each other's arms, Naru came in. "I'm sorry for invading," she said. "But I just received a message from someone in town. She's having a baby, so me and Oba-chan are going to help her deliver."
"Be safe nee-chan," Satoshi told his sister as the two women left. After a minute of silence, he spoke again. "Ne, we're all alone in this house."
Kazunari nodded. "Yeah, we are."
Satoshi kissed his forehead before gliding his hand over Kazunari's face to make him look at him. "Kazu, you don't have to be afraid."
Kazunari knew where this was leading. "Satoshi, how do you know Katsuhiko won't kill me if we do?"
"How would he find out? This is my house, remember?"
Kazunari sat up. "But Satoshi...."
"What?"
He looked at his lover. "Even if we did, I haven't had any... experience... let's say."
Satoshi sat up. "You're a virgin?"
"You make it sound so innocent."
"No no," Satoshi told him. "It's nothing to be ashamed about. I've never done it either. I mean, not with a man. With a girl, I have before."
"How old were you?" Kazunari asked curiously.
"Sixteen"
Kazunari laughed. "You were so young!"
Satoshi kissed his temple. "So are we." Kazunari looked up at him. "Kazu, it's okay. I promise I won't hurt you any more than possible."
"How do I know you won't leave me as soon as you're done with me?"
"If I was in it for the sex, I would've forced you a long time ago."
He laughed again before looking up at Satoshi. "Okay," Kazunari said finally before he said it with more confidence. "Okay."
