My eyes feel plastered shut by the suns warm rays. I force them open and glance around, the prickle of nerves fluttering in my stomach. Cass's silky hair explodes in waves over her pillow. Her sides rise ad fall with even nd content breathes. I let out a sigh and heave myself up to meet her face. Her eyes stare blankly at the cream wall in front of her. They flicker at me in a notion of life.

"Did I really fall Phil?" Her inviting voice coos.

"Yeah" I breath, flopping down beside her ad resting my head in my hands.

"That was embarrassing" She sniffs. My eyes lock on the revolving ceiling fan.

I shrug.

"It happens to everyone C. The guys didnt think you'd last that long on the trail" I admit.

"They knew i was going to fall?" Her voice becoming sour and laced with irritation. I swallow hard, aggravation wafting from her.

"Told you-douches"

She lets out an exasperated sigh before correcting me; "I believe your words were 'hot douches'"

I roll my eyes knowing she cant see them.

"Is my head okay?" She asks after comforting silence.

"Does it hurt?"

"Only a lot" She yawns.

"Well lets just hope you didnt lose any IQ points" I joke smartly.

"Still have more then you" She hits me playfully. Before I can respond my phone lets off an interuptive bing. I snatch it from the maple end table and open my texts.

How is she? Pyro in barn, kicked me as dozen times. Grant throwing temper tantrum.

I can tell who the sender is before looking at the ID. Lab is always talking in points, like he has something really important to do that hes late for.

Dont get the middle of it again. You face is still bruised from last tyme, FYI Youre a terrble fghter

I respond. Cass stands up on the bed towards the end of the message, causing spelling errors that Lab wont care if I leave.

"Sit back down Cass" I instruct lazily.

"Oww...Ow...OW My head hurts!" She drones.

"Then SIT"

She plops down crossed legged next to me, burning her eyes into mine.

"My brother works in the fields you know" She explains as I hand her another dose of Dr. Remic's prescribed antibiotics and painkillers.

"He's afraid of grasshoppers"

"Really?" I submit, not paying attention.

"He has a girlfriend who hes probably gonna get pregnant"

She drones on for a few more minutes until I hop out of my bed.

"Listen Cass, I have to go help Lab and the others at the barn, The horses are going berserk" I explain breifly heading for the door.

"The dogs are in the other room-dont let the out they're evil and will eat you" I add with caution. Her amber eyes blaze with delight at the words, I barely have time to notice as I grab my jacket and run for the door.
