Chapter 1, strings of fate

Gracie walked into the classroom, first as always. She quietly sat in her precious seat, thinking about the time she spent with her ex the night before. Those big brown eyes couldn't escape her mind. He was so good with his younger siblings, it made her heart melt.

She daydreams in class about all the good times they had when they were together. She knows she shouldn't like him again because of how fast he moved on last time but his memorizing brown eyes were just so captivating.

She was pulled out of her thoughts as the teacher started class. She slowly pulled the hood off her head, revealing her perfect messy bun. Everyone turned to stare, but she paid no mind.  As the teacher went on about the lesson, she texted her ex, Alex. "Come over again?" he slyly types. "I'll be over soon." she replied. Gracie tried her hardest to forget about him but Alex Miller, a somewhat talented soccer boy, was stuck in her head. His dreamy blonde hair and mormon heritage was just so cute.

RIIIINNNNGGGG goes the lunch bell. Gracie didn't eat red meat, so she decided to go to Chick fil a for lunch. Little did she know, Alex was just around the corner waiting for her.

"Cluck cluck welcome to chick fil a, what can i get for you?" said a sexy voice over the speaker. "Um... just the #1 please sir." she said, in a shy quiet voice. When she heard his voice, she couldn't help but bite her lips, hiding her smile. "Okay beautiful," he says. "Pull up to the first window."

As Gracie pulls up to pay, their hands slowly touch as he grabs her card. "O-o-oh uh... sorry A-Alex..." Alex coyly smirks at Gracie. "No problem baby, as long as you come over tonight." Gracie slowly sighs. "I can't keep doing this Alex. I broke your heart. How could you ever trust me again?" Alex turned his big brown eyes towards her, the eye contact was too much to bear. "I never stopped loving you Grace May O'brian. Even if im mormon, you can be my first wife." Gracie started tearing up, the love in her heart overwhelming. "A-A-A-A-Alex..." Alex then slammed the window shut and walked away, the pain from seeing her again was too much. He always hated seeing her cry. It was almost like... they were... connected somehow. As Gracie drove off with her food, her heart heavy, she recalled a not so fond memory.

It was December nineteenth, 2020, at her best friend Molly's birthday party. Gracie had made the tough decision to break it off with the love of her life. The whole night, her heart hung heavy. She drove to his house with her mom, walked up, and slowly knocked on the door. Alex opened. As soon as he saw her, his eyes glowed, the love in his heart showing. Gracie shakily said "Alex... we need to talk." He dreaded this day, he knew exactly what was to come. They sadly walked to the basement, where Gracie sat down shaking. "A-A-Alex..." she said. Alex comforted her, holding her. "We-We can't do this anymore. I can't. I'm sorry." With all the love in his heart, he thought to himself, in the words of PAN!C at the disco, "if you love me let me GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'', he replied, "I want whatever you want Gracie bear." And with that, Gracie left, tears in her eyes.

Flashforward to present day Gracie sat crying listening to This is Gospel by Panic! At The Disco. She adjusted her seat back and layed shoving her chicken sandwich into her mouth. Gracie didn't care if she choked, she didn't care about anything. All she could think about was Alex and how she should have responded to him differently. These thoughts caused waterfalls of tears to drip down her cheeks, smudging her mascara and giving her racoon eyes. She started singing along, turning the already foul image of mascara and chicken sandwich into a sing along session consisting of snot and food chewing, with her mouth open.

When Gracie arrived back in class her classmates were shocked to see perfect little Grace May in shambles. Her concerned friend Caitlin asked her what was wrong and was surprised to hear the name Alex Miller again. She thought the little thingy thing between the two had long since been over and was surprised to hear that her dear friend Gracie had regrets and love in her heart for him. Caitlin advised that the two shouldn't get back together knowing how the previous relationship went. She knew that Alex would never treat Gracie right and she deserved way better, but Gracie disagreed. She was convinced that they were meant to be and refused to take advice from her friend. Gracie thought fate had brought them together and was pushing them back into connection. She had fallen head over heels for him once again, being pulled deeper and deeper into his evil little Mormon boy trap.
