The strange men in suits first came to Reese's door when she was six. It was her mother's birthday, and they had come for her cousin Amaya, stating that they knew about her powers.
Reese would never forget the resigned expression on her twelve-year-old cousin's face. Amaya had been scared shitless, but she knew that there was nothing she could do. She had glanced back at Reese for the last time before ducking her head and following the men out of the door.
Reese's powers showed up three years later, and she refused to cooperate with the SHIELD agents; constantly giving them wrong dates or derailing the entire conversation by going on a rant about some random statistic she had pulled off of a billboard—all while her brother Rei had decided to become a suck-up. So while Reese was busy distracting the agents, Rei would give them whatever updates they wanted. He was completely under their influence.
SHIELD had stolen Amaya from her, and she would not let them take her or her brother—no matter how much he tempted them.
She never expected to pull anyone else into her mess; especially not a goody two shoes from Queens with a saviour complex.
It's her hole, and she'll continue to dig herself farther down until she gets her cousin back.
