 afterward

 Dedicated to Rebecca

Once upon a time when I was in high school, I had a best friend who was like a sister to me and somewhere along the way it all fell apart. I blamed myself for the events that lead to this for a long time. Until I realized it hadn't just been my fault, she hadn't entirely been truthful about her feeling with me and if she had been everything would have turned out differently. Maybe in another universe it had. This story is very much inspired by this friend and the events that led up to our falling out. Though neither of us had the power to control stars nor did we destroy an entire school. The end of our friendship was quite like most ending are.

I had been wanting to write a superhero story for quite a long time and it wasn't until I was listening to a song from, I don't know how but they found me that everything clicked into place. The moment I sat in front of my laptop after listening to their song leave me alone the characters took over and wouldn't leave me alone until I finish. I probably listened to that album a million times while I was writing.

Something I really wanted to do with this story was show how a misunderstanding could destroy everything and how the truth of an event can get muddled. In this case Noah dies and Artemis is with him when he does those facts stay, the rest is different for each girl. Mar blames Artemis and thinks she killed him, and Artemis saw him get killed and blames herself. One was there and one wasn't. Emotions can sometimes blind us to the truth and this is very much what happens to Mar. I also wanted to tell a story about how people change and sometimes we have to let go of the people we love the most because they might not be good for us anymore.
