The star-speckled sky twinkled and glittered under the illuminating moonlight as soft sprinkles of snowflakes fell from the sky onto the snow-laden mountains that hid the entrance to a, miraculously, still running waterfall that covered a yawning cave, forbidding from the outside, yet gave comfort from the inside. An assembly of cats were gathered in a circle in the cave, the eyes gleaming in the darkness, waiting.
Four cats entered the cave, careful not to slip into the cascading waterfall. The first one, his striped gray fur shone in the moonlight, his blind pale blue eyes sweeping over the cats as if he could see them; the second one, a golden tabby, his amber eyes glowing in the moonlight, the muscles ripping through his fur; the third one, a beautiful pale gray she-cat, her blue eyes searching the crowd, relaxing when she found her sister; and finally, a fiery ginger tom, his eyes as emerald-green as ever.
The crowd hushed as Firestar stepped into the smooth stone surface and faced them all with the air of superiority that a leader had. The other three stood beside him.
"I'm sure you all know why we have gathered here," Firestar began.
Some cats, like Rootspring and Hollyleaf, nodded, while others, like Half Moon and Cinderheart, purred quietly as they looked at the Four.
"These Three," he indicated Dovewing, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze," and me, have worked hard to fulfill our destinies and help save the Clans. But now we have retired, and darkness is looming on the horizon. We must pass on the power of the stars to our descendants and once again save our one and only home."
Silence fell, and Jayfeather padded forward.
"Like how Moth Flight once scattered the petals of the Blazing Star, our descendants are scattered amongst all Clans. ThunderClan is wrong to think that they are the center of the Clans, the warrior code is what bonds all living cats together." he paused, and continued, "I have searched many, and only one cat is worthy of this position. The first power of the stars will be given to the only medicine cat apprentice in RiverClan." He looked at Brambleberry.
She stood up. "I will gladly do the honors," she promised, and returned to her position.
Lionblaze cleared his throat and continued the speech, "Mentoring is one of the most important factors in the Clans. Without a mentor, we would not have been passed on the knowledge of how to sharpen and use our valuable skills. This was a difficult choice for me. But I have made my decision, and I will grant the youngest kit of SkyClan the second power of the stars and guide him to be the best fighter on the Clans. "
Yellowfang stood up and raised her tail. "Are you sure you know how to approach him? After all, he'd no doubt have heard the stories, and you're too inexperienced."
Lionblaze fixed his gaze on her. "I have reached my decision. That will be an obstacle that I must face."
Yellowfang dipped her head, and sat down.
The cats' gazes were now on Dovewing. She raised her head, and meowed, "The last power of the stars was delayed due to some problematic errors in our judgement." Hollyleaf ducked her head ashamedly. "But we have recovered from our mistakes, and saved the Clans like the prophecy promised. This time, I have chosen carefully and observed. Even though I transferred to ShadowClan for love, I will always remember my birth Clan. " She looked at Ivypool warmly. "The third power of the stars shall be given to the kin of the kin of the heart of the night. She has shown observance, and the unerring ability of concentration, especially in the night. I only hope that she will not fail us. Ivypool, will you tell her?"
Ivypool blinked, and meowed, "Of course I will."
"Then that's settled," Firestar meowed with satisfaction. He padded out of the cave and the Clan cats followed. The sun rose in the horizon. Then he turned to the pale gray she-cat. "You're right, Dovewing. Our only hope should be that they will not fail us."
"Of course they will not," Rock meowed behind them. "Our prophecies have never been wrong before, but be warned: even when they hold the power of the stars, they choose their own path, whether it's love or friendship, good or evil."
