All of the principal actors have a "Last Supper" the day they film their death scenes.

During an interview, Robert Kirkman claimed Norman Reedus (Daryl) originally auditioned for the part of Merle Dixon. He was rejected, but his audition so intrigued the show-runners that they created the part of Daryl just for him.

The drug dealer has some sort of child in his life (Brock), in described physically as small and skinny, and says the word "bitch"

The name Edwin Jenner, the doctor at the CDC, is a reference to Edward Jenner who developed the first vaccine (which was for smallpox)

During lunch breaks, the zombie cast would eat together while the human cast ate together.

In season 2, Beth is 17 years old. In reality, Emily Kinney was 25 years old when she joined the cast.

The prison set took about two months to build.

The timeline of the second half of season 4 (eight episodes) takes place in 8 days exactly.

In Season One, of the 20 characters at the camp, only 10 are actually from the source comic book.

A walking dead companion series is set to take place in California, and come out late 2015. The companion series will have nothing to do with the original series, but will use new characters to give us a different view from the beginning of the apocalypse.

The first half of season 5 takes place in 4 days only.

While the word 'zombie' is not used in the show, it is featured multiple times in the comic books and the video game series.

While filming the Season 1 episode 'Guts', SWAT was called after civilians heard gunshots. However, this was just Michael Rooker (Merle) firing blank rounds from the roof top.

In an online interview, it was revealed that Frank Darabont envisioned having several self-contained episodes that would not continue the main story. One such episode would have been the season two premiere. It would have involved Sam Witwer (who Darabont used in The Mist (2007) and played the tank zombie in the series premiere) as a solider in a Black Hawk Down (2001) styled Atlanta. Witwer's character would have encountered several of the cast before being bit and locking himself in the tank.
