how it feels, ch.1

tw: constant self-blame/ loss of a loved one
DISCLAIMER: this is an AU where all the characters are pretty much human. (i am in love with miles' tails though so he still has them-)

shadow sat in his room, staring at the ceiling, blasting his favorite bands until his ears nearly bled from the high amplitude. his dad, eggman robotnic always yelling at him to turn it down. he never listened though- it was the only way he could cope form the recent loss of his elder sister maria. he hadn't been to school in months now. he broke his phone and recently got a new one but he had no ones number in it.(apart from his dads-) and he refused to reach out to his friends. he lost all of them due to his self distancing. he was terrified to become attached to anyone again, or to love anyone again. his elder sister made him feel at peace, she took care of him. and now she was gone- for good.

"SHADOW!"

"what dad?!"

"the school called again, they want you back by next week. your taking too much time off."

shadow sat himself ip from his bed and lowered the volume from his music so he could talk with his dad who was outside his door.

"cant i just dro-"

"YOUR GOING TOMORROW SHADOW."

"oh fuck this-" shadow only whispered to himself, laying back down. he hadn't even showered in four days and he smelt like a piss covered ass. no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't take care of himself, he just couldn't.

"and make sure to shower kiddo- i can smell you from out here."

shadow had become distant with his father too, since it was his daughter that died. they both hated each other now. shadow had seen her die right in front of his eyes.

'it should of been me, it should of been me- i could've saved her...'
shadow wiped the tears that slowly fell from his eyes onto his bedsheets, which also smelt like ass.

he got up and turned on his shower water from the bathroom inside his larger room.

^time skip to the night time^

shadow layed down, he didnt cry himself to sleep though. he eventually learned to forced tears down his throat, which definitely felt horrible, but did give him more sleep. which he needed.

shadow woke up the next morning to,
"SHADOW WAKE THE FUCK UP ALREADY- YOUR GOING TO MISS THE BUS IF YOU DONT LEAVE IN TEN MINUTES!"

so he proceeded his school routine in a very rushed manner, skipping breakfast and washing his face. he pulled up his overgrown hair into a small ponytail in the back of his head, not fully down but not fully up. baby hairs stuck out from the front since he rushed it a lot. it was a natural black but he had streaks of reg going down in (whats supposed to be perfect when its brushed correctly) lines.
he was done just in time to make it to the bus.

^time skip to at school^

when shadow arrived at school, a flash of memories came running into his mind, he remembered his old friends all at once, he missed them. but it was too late now, hed have to restart. its not like anyone would even care to remember him. that was until,

"hey are you shadow?" a boy with blue hair asked him. shadow hadn't known this kid previously before,
"uh..mm, why?"

"well, you look like him. he was in my math class but ever since he lost his sister he hasnt-"

"get lost."

"uh, what?"

"YES IM HIM."

"Oh, crap- sorry for bringing- that...up."

shadow thought to himself for a moment. the kid really didnt know it was him. did he look that fucked up? he wasnt even recognizable?! well, his hair was four months late for a cut, he hardly slept and the only sunlight he got was some that slipped through his window, eh makes sense. the kid apologized, he should take it easy.

"sorry, for yelling- i uhm.."

"no no no its okay! completely understandable." the blue haired boy gave shadow a light smile in an attempt to comfort him.
shadow, without even thinking, gave the boy a hug. he needed it so bad. not even his own dad had reassured him in those slight ways in the times they would take 3 times a week.
"woah woah woah.." sonic said softly hugging him back. he stood a few inches taller than shadow, but was a slight bit thinner.
shadow pulled out of the hug immediately after 2-3 seconds of it.
"i-im sorry- i needed that. thanks- whats your name again?-"

"dont be sorry your good" sonic said, seeing shadow wipe off his building up tears quickly.
"the names sonic!"

"sonic, nice to meet you." shadow said as he slipped his hands inside the holes in his sweater, and tensed up his shoulders. he didnt make much eye contact the whole time, he had grown to be quite awkward around people now.

"hey shadow?"

"huh"

"wanna hang out after school? i mean we could go to my house, maybe out to get fro-yo-"

"sure"

"oh, i was expecting a different answer but alright!"

-school bell rings for school to start and im skipping to the end cause i'm lazy^^^^

shadow waited for sonic by the exit of the school, seeing him walk over with a boy who had two tails and yellow hair. he hadn't known him before either.

"sup shadow!" sonic said happily, as miles walked away.

"hey"

"you seem tired, wanna do this tomorrow?"

"no its okay. i need the exercise. my dad would probably be disappointed to see me go back home anyways."

"im, very sorry to hear that. your always welcome over at my house! my parents are pretty chi-"
sonic was interrupted by another hug. what was it with this dude and hugs- sonic hugged him back ignoring that thought. the poor boy was clearly touch starved and needed the affection.

"sorry again- it feels good." shadow tried to explain, still not looking at sonic face.

"feels good?"

"huh- OH- I DIDNT MEAN IT LIKE THAT.."

"i know i know im just messing with you!" sonic said as he started laughing a bunch.

the two boys continued laughing as they walked to sonics car or whatever then eventually, made it to sonics house .
