Regulus walked yet again to the astronomy tower. It was another restless night and the stars were the perfect escape. He had always done particularly well in astronomy, finding peace in the balanced night sky. Balance was something he didn't find in his own family of stars. Everything was always wrong, always a power imbalance.

But the real stars? You could chart them and watch their glowing aura. You could see how everything worked together to create the constellations, the perfect celestial families. Everything that was expected of the stars was always there and real.

He did not expect to see James Potter already standing in the middle of the room when he opened the door, pacing back and forth. Regulus instantly stiffened and stood up straighter.

"We need to stop meeting like this." Regulus said, his tone icy.

James smiled. "I think otherwise, I quite like meeting you unexpectedly."

"How comforting." He took a few steps towards James.

"Thought you said we needed to stop meeting like this..."

"Maybe I lied." Regulus closed the small gap between them, kissing James.

"Mm, as much as I want this, I also want to take you on a proper date." James said, pulling away.

"Can't you just kiss me here?"

"I said a date, not just kissing."

"We'll eventually get there in the end." He kissed James again.

"While I don't doubt that for a minute-" James gasped as Regulus moved down his neck. "Fuck- Reg!" He buried his hands into the younger boy's curls. "I lied too, I want this now."

James was now laying on Regulus' chest in complete bliss. "Love?"

"Hm?"

"Go on a date with me?"

"Why do you want to take me on a date so badly?"

"Maybe because I have morals and would like to take you somewhere where you can't distract me so I can know you better."

"I'd say you know me pretty well."

"I wouldn't," James sounded slightly offended. He sat up next to Regulus, "I don't know your favorite color or favorite food or your favorite stuffed animal as a child."

"My favorite col-"

James put a finger to the younger boy's mouth, "save it for the date." He smiled.

"I never agreed to go on a bloody date with you James Potter!" Regulus laughed and playfully swatted at him.

"But you're going to, in fact it's happening tomorrow. You will go to Hogsmeade with me and have a butterbeer or a few."

"I can't believe I'm letting James Potter tell me what I'm going to do."

"So that's a yes?"

"Fuck off Potter." Regulus pushed him away, pulling on his clothes. He threw clothes at James. "Get dressed. I'll see you tomorrow at three."

"Merlin, I've just got myself a date with the hottest boy in Slytherin."

"Goodnight James." Regulus kissed James on the cheek before swiftly walking out.

James rubbed his cheek where Regulus' lips had just been and smiled to himself. He just got himself a date with the hottest boy in Slytherin!

At exactly three o'clock Regulus met James at the gate to Hogsmeade. James of course had been there many minutes beforehand and was tossing his snitch in the air before catching it and repeating the process. Regulus smiled to himself before walking over.

James spotted him and threw on the biggest smile. "Hey lover boy"

Regulus took James' arm in his and began walking down the hill."Don't call me that ever again."

"Whatever you say lover boy."James snickered. Regulus shot him a glare but didn't say anything more as they walked into the village.

Hogsmeade was bustling with students going from shop to shop. Regulus stiffened around all the people, afraid to let his guard down. They walked into The Three Broomsticks and took a small table near the back.

"I'll get our drinks love, relax a bit." James gave Regulus a small smile and squeezed his arm before going to the counter.

Regulus tried to let his guard down a bit but it just wasn't working. There were too many untrustworthy people around and James wasn't even here to help.

James was quick to come back though. Bringing a warm smile, two butterbeers, and a plate of chips with him. Regulus did start to relax a bit after that.

Conversation came easy for James and Regulus did let his normal icy self slip and ended up sharing all those meaningless niceties that were his favorite things. He supposed this was what you were supposed to do on a first date, have easy conversation and share the meaningless things about yourself.

Once they had three butterbeers each and it was well into the later evening hours, both boys were having such a great time they didn't want to go back to the castle. They grudgingly paid and walked hand in hand back up the hill and into the confines of Hogwarts.

"James?"

"Yes love?"

"I don't wanna go to dinner."

"Do you just wanna head back to your dorm...?" James stopped in the hall and rubbed the back of his neck, "I could walk you back to your common room– I mean of course if you don't want to then I'll just–."

"James–"

"We don't have to walk together of course–"

Regulus repeated himself louder this time, "James!"

He looked at Regulus sheepishly, "Yeah? Sorry."

"Stop rambling and we'll get some dinner from the kitchens and I have a place we can go to eat it. Continue our date, yeah?"

"Yeah, yeah totally." James beamed.

"Let's get on with it then."

They walked to the kitchens to get food that wouldn't actually get eaten. They would be too busy talking and kissing, mostly kissing, to think about it.
