Adrien Agreste had finally come to terms with a newfound truth: he was in love with Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
It only took him three years, four months, and six days, and eight seconds to realize this. Now the dark-haired girl was the only thought consuming his mind lately, the only thing he wanted to think about.
Deep down he'd always known that there was something different about Marinette, how she had seemed to matter a bit more than even his closest friends. It also didn't help that his feelings were undistinguishable while he was also infatuated with his superhero partner, Ladybug.
Now? His mind was clear and his heart was sure: he was in love with Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
Since this was all new to Adrien, he knew he wanted to take his time, not rush into anything. He didn't want to overwhelm or pressure Marinette into anything, given his knowledge to her well-known frantic word jumbles, and her always assuming the worst in situations. Since he last knew, not to mention, she had something going on with Cat Noir.
How could he know if she had moved on from the feline yet?
Adrien also didn't know a lot about love, or how to show it for that matter. When he thought of love, he thought of his late mother, and how much she had to offer.
How every morning and every night she'd tell him she loved him. How when his cousin Felix would stay over and tell one of his many scary tales to scare him, she'd stay up late with him and they'd sit outside in the garden and count stars together until the young boy calmed down and fell asleep. How when his father hosted parties and get-togethers for his company brand, he'd feel out of place and nervous, and he and his mother would sneak off to the kitchen and she'd make his favorite snacks.
And soon after looking back on those happy memories, Adrien thought about how much he missed her. How much he missed her smile, her laugh, the warmth radiating from her soul whenever she was around, and her gentle voice as she sung and tucked him to bed.
How much he wanted his mother back.
With a sad smile, Adrien stared at his computer screen, at the background picture of him and his mother. He had her bright, emerald-like eyes, which he was grateful for. Of his parents he resembled his mother the most, instead of the cold, distant man he called a father.
Though his father isolated himself a lot, from his own son and the public, Gabriel still loved Emelie. He missed his wife just as much as Adrien missed his mother.
If his mother had love in her, maybe his father would, too, Adrien hoped.
After taking a quick shower, Adrien changed into a set of clean clothes, ditching his usual white lab-like coat. He tied his shoes and grabbed his phone from the nightstand. Would it be weird to send Marinette a good morning text?
Plagg flew over and sat on his holder's shoulder, watching closely as Adrien just stared at the dark-haired girl's contact photo. "Are you going to call her or just hope she senses you staring at her number and she calls first?"
"Is it weird if I send her a good morning text, Plagg?" The model asked, his thumbs hovering over the screen keyboard. "She could be asleep. Then again, school starts in a half-hour, and she's usually late, so if I text Marinette she might wake up, and then she wouldn't be late for school."
"Since when do you overthink this much?" The kwami asked.
"I just..." Adrien sighed. "I've realized how important Marinette is to me and I don't want to do anything to screw this up."
Plagg snorted. "Good luck with that. You kept flirting with her as Cat Noir, and now she prefers him."
"I didn't realize going to the movies together last month was a date!" Adrien defended as he raised his arms in front of him. "We've gone so many times before; it's normal for us."
