Chapter 18 : Level up

I was lying down at my comfy bed. Staring at the ceiling, think about something important. I was thinking how to convince the duke about I'm learning the swordsmanship. I need to learn this since it's part of my side plan.

Will the duke gave me permission?

I rolled around the bed to the left and right until I fall from the bed and then make sound of the thud, likely no one heard that.

"Ouch!", I hissed.

I stand up and tidy up my dark blue dress. That's when I decided my decision to asked the duke permission. I walked toward the door and exit my room. I walked to the duke office since he always working at there. He most likely busy this few weeks and also have many meetings with the other nobles. Let just say that, he don't have a free time to spend with his child. Being a noble people with high status was hard. Anyway, that's how to survive in this world.

I arrived in front of the office door. I take a few breath before knocking the door.

I hope he in the good mood.

"Dad, it's me. I want to discuss something with you. May I come in?", I said politely after knocked the door.

"Sure", He answered.

I open the door and slowly enter the duke office. There's Sebastian stand still beside him as always, he's a loyal servant for this family. Sebastian gave me his genie smile, I also return the smiled back. For the duke, our eyes met as we saw each other after I bowed.

"What kind of discussion you want to talk to me, Kellen?", He started the conversation.

I take a small breath and say," I want to learn swordsmanship and request a great instructor to teach me".

Sebastian's eyes was shock but the duke just stared at me with a seriousness. He doesn't react at all, maybe he just confused....? But that's will be ridiculous. He is a wise noble like the king himself.

"Why?", He crossed his arms.

"I wanted to be strong. I wanted to protect our family and I don't want to be...... Useless", I said in a serious tone.

There was a sudden silent after I answered his questions. I really wanted to be strong. I don't want to be a burden to people especially my family. I don't want people to take advantage of me since I don't had a mana.

"I will find a suitable instructor for you, Kellen. But", My heart beating so fast with this 'But'.

"Your schedule will be more tight than usual. Are you really sure?", He added.

"Yes! Thank you so much, dad", I smiled brightly.

"Your welcome. You can start tomorrow morning to learn swordsmanship from her", He smirked.

"Her?", I confused.

"I know who would like to teach you swordsmanship. Don't worry, she a kind person and high spirit like you", He smiled.

"She sounded interesting. Thanks again, dad. I will leave now", I bowed at him and leave the room.

I'm so excited! I can't wait for tomorrow. I know that a noble woman shouldn't learn swordsmanship since man think that it was not suitable for woman. But, the duke perspective must be different from the other. I glad he gave me permission.

After I exited the duke office, I saw Kevin walked in the hallway while holding a book beside him. I walked toward him and greet him.

"Good afternoon, my sweet dear brother. Where you going?", I said in a sweet tone.

"Good morning, Ellen. I was on my way to the library", He smiled.

Uhu.... My brother is soooooo cute!

"What kind of book you reading?", My eyes keep staring at the book he was hold.

"Magic! I really like magic. It's interesting. There's many type of magic in this world but most of the rare magic is Light", He said excitedly since he now a magic nerd as I can say.

"Light magic, sound interesting to me", I lie since I knew who had that kind of magic.

"Of course! Light magic user is rare to find and it's also important to a noble people since it's some kind of divine power, also powerful among the elemental magic", He explained to me.

"Elemental magic?", I questioned him since I take interest on this elemental type.

"Elemental magic is like elements. There's 9 elements as fire, water, earth, ice, wind, electric, nature, dark and light. As far I know, only a noble blood line can master elemental magic. For the commoners, they only can learn basic magic since they have a low mana", He said.

"Wow.... So, what's your element then?", I asked him since he had a mana.

"I.... already have one.... It's water element", He said shyly.

"That's cool. I really hope I have one but it's okay, I will learn swordsmanship though", I sighed softly.

"Really!? You will learn swordsmanship!?", He wants a certainty.

"Yes, dad gave me permission", My face beaming with light.

"Wow, I hope I can learn swordsmanship too but my body is weak than you", His head hanging low.

"Don't be sad, dear brother. Everybody have their own weakness", I smiled bitterly.

"I guess so....", He smiled bitterly.

The Next Day (The author was lazy to write)

I wore a suitable clothes for training after I finished my dancing lessons. I had 2 or 3 lessons every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. It's just 3 days but I already exhausted. The instructor was kind to me, I liked all of them. I hope she also kind too.

I went to the training ground and saw the duke already there with a woman. I can't see her face, but I saw her hair colour. It's bright maroon. She wore a casual knight outfit too.

I walked toward them with a smiled on my face. My hand also full with sweat because I'm so nervous.

"Good morning, your grace", I greeted my father.

"Good morning, Kellen. This is Colonel Vanessa from Luminour Army", He introduce her.

"Hello, my lady. My name is Vanessa Kloury. I'm a colonel. It's really nice to meeting with you", She smiled at me.

She seem nice with her bright personality. I started to like her.

"Hello, lady Vanessa. It's really nice to meeting you too. You can called me, Kellen", I said politely.

"Ok, then. You also can called me whatever you want", She chuckled lightly.

"Can I called you sensei?", My face beaming with light.

"Sure", She chuckled again.

"It's look like you both get along already", The duke interrupted our conversation.

"Well, she is a nice girl though. I glad that you choose me", She smirked at the duke.

"Since you are best of the best, Essa. You know why", The duke walked away from us.

The duke left us both at the training ground. He seem busy, also exhausted. I was worried if he overworked himself.

"Don't worry about your father. He's a strong man I know", I was surprised since she can read my face.

"Thanks, sensei", I smiled.

"Your welcome, Kellen. Now, are you ready for swordsmanship lesson!?", She said in a serious tone.

"Yes, sensei! Bring it on!", I replied.

The lesson was smooth at first but then it became a little bit rough at the end. I used a wooden sword to avoid bad injury. She taught me a basic skill of swordsmanship, that I tried to understand. She was a great teacher, I glad the duke choose her. I also learned that, her personality change everytime we in serious lesson mode. We also rest for a while. This is my opportunity to level up myself to became strong person. Everything was according to my plan but there's a lot I need to do after I turn 25 year olds.
