CHAPTER ONE

Cold, breezing air hit my face as I stepped outside the house, ready to leave. I was now saying goodbye to this place, This place where me and my brother shared unforgettable memories in our childhood days, the place where we became strong in our own ways.

"Be save honey!" Mom said as I started the engine and took the road. I was gonna miss her. Leaving her behind was the best way to keep her safe. After Lucas' death, who knows what will also happen to her. Her safety is at stake. I assigned one trusted person guarding her secretly. Also, her sister stayed to tend for her company.

"Agent Turner reporting for duty" I said through the other line.

"Lexy! Good to have you back. " Greg, the chief officer of the Ssc or Secret Service Commission said.
"Are you on your way? "

"I'm almost at the airport. " i said

"Great. Someone will pick you up when you land in New York. See you then. Oh, and Lex, sorry about Lucas. He was a great agent. And a good friend to me." I hang up and didn't bother to respond. It will be hard, but I just have to face it and be done with it.

Lucas was older than me. He was my bestfriend and enemy in one. Yes, i know it can be confusing, but that was us, And he was every thing to me. Father died early with reasons we didnt know why. So that made Lucas strive hard to be in charge of me and mom.

I miss him.... I miss him a lot.

Ten minutes later I arrived at the airport and headed to new york. This was it, I was leaving alone for the first time. No Lucas, just me.

9 am I arrived, and as expected a car was waiting for me outside.

"I'm glad you're here" The woman said and hugged me, and I hugged her back knowing that I missed her a lot.
"But of course. Bitch got my back." I said and she laughed.

It took one hour before be arrived at our destination. That took Annie to talk about things going on in the commission. Turns out I wouldn't be assigned to any mission unless having someone to replace Lucas as my partner. That's bullshit! No one can replace him. He was the best!

Having arrived, we headed inside head quarter's loan. Walking sure wasn't creepy. It's the stares they were all throwing at me. I could hear them whisper to each other saying that I was back and that I looked really stressed out.

So what? That's nothing compared to loosing someone you love.
Ignoring was all I did as I walked straight to Greg 's office with Annie beside.

"Lexy!!" Someone shouted, and as I turned around I was already being crushed by this insane lady.
"god Hailey! You're crushing me. "

"I was worried to death!, I was in a vacation when I heard the news. I just arrived this morning" the look in her eyes shows that she's been devastated.

Once again, sorrow consumed me. "Lets not talk about it" I said as I entered Greg's office.

He was talking to someone when I entered the room. I couldn't quite picture the man out for his back was facing me. Just then they'd noticed me.

"Oh! Lexy, good you're here. Be seated."
Facing the man near made a chill through my spine. By the looks of it, he wasn't pleased with what's going on. Well, I won't be intimidated.

"This is Duke Ranger." Said Greg.
"Get to the point. I have more important things to do. " said the man named Duke.

Greg cleared his throat. " He will be replacing Lucas as your partner. " just imidiately I stood from my seat. "WHAT!" I said, half shouted. That took me time before glaring at Greg while Duke(I don't care who he is) left without an order. "I thought I was going to work alone?! "

"Well, seeing that you are a woman, things had changed." He said, compeating with my glare. And without an order, I stormed out of the room, not caring what others say. I'm the best agent in this estate! Why do i even need a god forsaken partner!
