When I opened my eyes, the world was a bleary mess. The sweet smell of honey and lemon tea wafted around me and tickled my nose. The vague memory of my mother's smiling face while she drank honey and lemon tea rose to the top of my mind.

"Lumiere! My son, you are awake", my father's deep voice broke through my thoughts. He was carrying a tray filled with a pot of delicious-smelling honey-lemon tea. He put the tray down and hugged me. This may as well have been our first father-son hug ever. Never had he shown any sign of paternal love towards me. All he did was train me to be the strongest sorcerer anyone had ever seen.  I guess this was the first time I or anyone had seen him show vulnerability. The endless stream of tears and "I am sorry" that followed shocked me to the core. I never expected my father to shed a tear or apologize. I mean, he was Merlin The freaking Great. Once he realized that he was showing weakness, he quickly pulled away. Clearing his throat, he said,

"I...I will just be outside, call out if you need me."

With that, he turned on his heel and went out, and I was left staring at his back.
