The footage went as follows:

It showed the moments leading up to the explosion: you fiddling with the complicated settings on the machine, connecting to your laptop and soundlessly mumbling to yourself.

Kaiba's eyes widened a fraction as he watched the glass fling itself across the room, two pieces in particular hurtling towards you. Unconsciously you cringed inwards as you watched your near death experience back on camera, hand reaching for where your stomach would have been impaled if not for your speedy reaction time.

Past you ran out of the lab, the glass dust on your lab coat reflecting almost daintily in the view of the camera. You knew better, you thought as you glanced at where your white coat had been shredded by tiny glass blades and dotted with specks of blood seeping through.

Then, the CCTV footage began to show what you hadn't seen.

A dark, ominous purple mist spread across the room, pouring out of the duel disc and contaminating the room with shadows. It seemed to act as a black hole, absorbing light until there was barely any visibility to take comfort in. Luckily, Kaiba Corp had night vision cameras for when the sun went down, and so with a small change in the angle, you both were still able to see what happened clearly.

Within seconds the whole lab was covered, briefly obscuring the view of both cameras.

Just as it began to clear, you glimpsed a shadow in the midst of it all. Both you and Kaiba watched the blurry figure turn this way and that, seemingly observing their surroundings, although how they could discern anything through the mist you weren't sure.

Kaiba, on the other hand, had started focusing on something else in the picture the second time watching.

"Pause it." He interrupted your thoughts suddenly. Quickly, you hit the space bar, stopping the video in its tracks. Both you and the man in purple stared at him expectantly.

"Look, there's more of them." The CEO pointed one finger at a slightly darker purple blur that you hadn't noticed before, frozen mid-escape.

"More?" The purple themed man spoke up for the first time in a while.

"Yes, more," Kaiba emphasised, "So where are your friends?"

He frowned before answering. "As far as I was aware, only I was pulled through."

"Well, clearly not," Your boss sneered, rewinding the video and clicking on 0.5x speed. That way, you could see what he had seen.

And, like usual, Kaiba was right. There, in the edge of the frame, were two shadows, barely noticeable in the midst of the purple fog. They emerged seconds after the man's silhouette began to become visible, but instead of sticking around like he had, they immediately flitted across the room, presumably out the door which you had left open in the panic of your escape.

Begrudgingly, Kaiba then turned the laptop around to replay the clip for the intruder. Eyebrow arched impossibly high, he waited for him to speak.

"I don't know what those are." He insisted.

"You expect me to believe that?" The CEO snorted, "You'll end up telling me everything, one way or another, anyway." The purple haired man shook his head in defeat, sighing slightly before asking:

"Should I start with an introduction?"
