You blinked your eyes open, adjusting to the morning light as you heard your alarm go off. You stretched your arms up and rolled over. Your boyfriend turned the alarm off before turning to face you. A small smile spread over his face as he ran his thumb over your cheek.
"Good morning darling" Nanami said in a raspy morning voice. His hair was slightly unkempt, the short front pieces hanging in front of his face.
You smiled in response. "Good morning" you replied, enjoying the peace between the two of you.
He sat himself up quickly to prepare for the day. You rolled your eyes in frustration, your mornings with Nanami were always so fast before he had to leave for the day.
You quickly sat up yourself and looked over to him reviewing his phone. As he was getting a head start on his emails, you straddled his lap. Nanami remained still, only raising a single brow as he stayed focused on his phone and continued typing his response to a coworker. You crossed your arms over your bare chest and huffed.
"Sweetheart" he said, with a slightly imploring tone. "I need to get up."
You let out a whine in response. Nanami sighed in reply and placed his now locked phone face down on his nightstand. He grabbed his watch and began fastening it on his wrist. He knew this was his own fault, his job was requiring longer hours lately and he was exhausted every time he came home: normally finding you asleep once he walked through the door. At this point, the only time you spent together was limited to the small window on weekday mornings and the occasional weekend dinner.
Nanami returned to look up at you as you scooted closer to his chest, ending up so your hips sat over his. Your arms wrapped around his neck. He grabbed your chin in between his thumb and index finger. He looked into your eyes.
"I'm sorry my love" he said quietly. "I miss you too."
You furrowed you brow in a vulnerable position, pouting your lips a little.
Nanami's face turned somber. "Don't look at me like that dear" he said, running his thumb over your chin softly.
Your eyes started to tear as you ran a hand over the back of his head. "Baby, I feel like I haven't seen you in months" you said, almost in a whisper.
"I know darling, I'm truly sorry" he implored. He ran the back of his index finger under your waterline, catching any falling tears.
You nodded arrogantly.
"You want me to keep apologizing? Will that make you feel better?" He looked up at you with raised eyebrows.
"... It helps" you said, grumbling.
"I'm sorry sweetheart" he repeated, you nodded again in response.
"I'm sorry" he was whispering now as he pulled your chin down toward his face. "I'm sorry."
