REAL LIFE
"MATT!" matt's head whipped around at the sound of his name. he got to the restaurant ten minutes early in fear of being late. at the sight of cory, matt straighted and he quickly got up.
"cor!" matt exclaimed, engulfing the girl in a hug.
"how is it possible that you're so much prettier in person?" cory asked when the two pulled away. matt just laughed and shook his head.
"i just am."
"yo, where are nick and chris?" josh asked, startling matt. truth be told, matt was not expecting both cory and josh to show up. he assumed, like one usually would, that she would tell him before bringing her brother.
"um, they're not here." matt admitted. "i didn't tell them i was meeting you guys."
that sentence resulted in cory scolding matt for a solid ten minutes. throughout the rest of the lunch, she would bring up comments about how 'i wish nick was here' or 'i could really use chris's humor right now.'
during one of the times, matt was drinking a glass of water and turned away from her, tuning cory out, and looking at josh with a smirk. josh had cory's phone in his hand and took a picture of this interaction.
once the group finished their lunch, matt and cory exchanged their goodbyes.
"it was so nice to meet you!" matt said, giving cory another hug.
"it was." cory agreed. "but it would've been even nicer if—"
"don't even say it." matt rolled his eyes. "i know i should've brought nick and chris."
"it's not even because i wanted to meet them!" cory protested. "you should see the way josh has been talking about nick. i need to see them together as soon as possible."
"josh and nick?" matt raised his eyebrows. "actually, i can see that happening."
"right? they would be so amazing together."
the two continued to talk while josh brought the car around. once cory had left, matt drove home. he had a smile stuck on his face and when he got back to his manager's house, where the triplets stay when in la, he tried to avoid chris at all costs.
the last thing he needed was a reminder that he placed a bet on the girl he was quickly starting to fall for.
