Chapter One: Wonder
"YO! Luce, are you even listening?" I took my eyes off my phone, for a second to look at my best friend, Matt who was just yelling at me. I honestly hated it when people disturb me when I'm texting, for some reason it aggravates me.
"You what, mate?" I said, in a childish voice.
"What's with you and the bloody phone?" He replied back, sounding quite annoyed.
"Nothing." I said bluntly.
"Why are you being blunt like a pencil for? Want me to chuck a sharpener at you?" He teased.
"Harhar, you're so funny." I let out sarcastically.
I put all my attention back to my phone, when Matt bothered me again.
"Seriously, who are you texting constantly during school hours?"
I took a deep breath in.
Should i just tell him? Maybe he'll judge me, that's what people do no matter how close you are to them.
I looked down at my knees, too uncomfortable by the green pair of eyes gazing into me.
I could sense his eyes, staring right through me. It's almost as if he could see what's happening inside me.
I looked at him, his gaze still holding onto me. When I looked deeply into his green eyes, I could see that he was worried and wanting me to confess to him.
I got this sudden urge to tell him.
"I.." I pushed myself to get the words out my mouth, but they didn't.
He's my best friend, I can tell him but something is stopping me from doing it.
"Luce, you can tell me anything. I'm here for you." Matt said quietly.
I knew he was serious, but I just couldn't say it to him.
"Matt, it's nothing. Trust me." I lied through my teeth.
Before he could say anything, the school bell, indicating first lesson was over which saved me. "I have go to my locker and get my books for period two, see you in Maths." I said to him while gathering my stuff off the desk and transferring them in my bag as quickly as possible.
I hurriedly delivered my last words to him before I left, I didn't want to be left alone with Matt, asking me several questions.
But then I noticed me, Matt and Mr. Mead were the only ones in the class room, everyone else had left in a blink.
Matt watched as Mr. Mead left.
No, Mr. Mead stay. Stay! Lucette hurry up, Sir is leaving before you. I thought to myself.
I quickly grabbed my caramel coloured bag and hung it on my shoulder.
When I turned around, I heard Matt sigh.
Before I could even take one step forward, his warm hand grabbed me by my bare arm and pulled me back.
I got this sensational feeling in my stomach. It felt quite odd.
I closed my eyes and thought to myself, Oh God, he's going to beg me to tell him. Lucette hurry up and think of something.
He took a step forward and whispered softly into my ears. "Baby, look at me."
Every time Matt called me baby, it made me smile instantly. We called each other baby because it showed how close we were. He even named me as 'Baby' on his phone.
He let go off my arm as I turned around to look at him. We were ever so close, I could feel that he knew something was up. For the first time ever, it felt so awkward looking into his eyes.
"Luce, you haven't been acting yourself lately. You don't have to tell me, but if it's something that's serious you really need to tell me. I can help you. You do know that right?" He said in a stern manner. "Is someone sending you nasty text messages?" Matt said while studying my facial expressions as I responded back.
"Matt it's nothing, you should stop worrying. I'm honestly fine." I said, as I passed a smile.
"I love you, you know that right?" He said sweetly as he smiled at me.
"I love you more though." I said to him, as I chuckled.
For the rest of the day, I tried so hard not to get my phone out in front of Matt. I'm always with Matt, the only time I'm not with him is when I'm in the girls toilet. However, my friend Belle is starting to ask me questions. She even thinks I'm getting horrible text messages from people. I'm scared how they think I'm being bullied.
Has Matt told Belle to keep an eye on me when he's not around?

Period 6. Last lesson and then I can go home. I couldn't help but think about getting my phone out. This was the first time ever I didn't use my phone as much as I normally did.
When the clock struck 3:30pm and the school bell rang, everyone rushed out the room. As I walked out the class room, I got my phone out. I looked down at my phone and on the home screen it showed that I had 15 messages. I instantly opened up the text messages. They were all from the same person. The most common message that was sent to me within the last 5 hours were "Babe, I miss you. Please reply back, I really hope you're okay."
A grin formed onto my lips as I read the text. I was typing up a message to reply back but then the call ID screen popped up, showing that I was receiving a phone call.
It was my step mum.
I picked up my phone. "Hello?"
"Do you have any classes after school today?" She asked.
I shook my head but then noticed that she couldn't see me and answered. "No."
"Ok, I just want to let you know that you got a parcel sent to you." She mentioned.
"Ok, cool." I responded.
"Um- should I open it up?" My step mum asked and then all of a sudden I remembered who the parcel was from.
I hesitated for a second but replied. "No, um- I'd like to open it. Bye." With that I hung up the phone and slipped my phone into my pocket, walking home.
Could it really be from him?
