Chapter 56

I look around the hall and see that people are still just standing looking at each other. I shake my head as I get up. Looking down at Envy, I see she is assessing the situation as well. I lean down towards her, kissing her cheek.

"Would you like me to get you something to eat and drink? I want to get things started so people will feel more at ease."

"Sure, that would be great, babe. Could you get me some of the pulled pork for the meat and whatever else you think is good?"

"No problem, anything for you."

As I walk towards the food and drink tables, I pat my pack members on the shoulders and tell them to relax and have a good time. They nod their heads as they walk behind me towards the tables as well. I wave towards The Dark Ghost pack, letting them know to also join in. They slowly make their way over. I see a little girl that is standing at the back of the pack. I stop in my tracks and turn towards her. She is all alone like she has no one. I walk in her direction. She looks up at me like she is terrified. Her eyes are all bugging out of her head. She appears to be about 4 or 5 years old. She is not old enough yet to know exactly what is going on without being told. I decide I want to help her get food and drink and have her sit with Envy and the others at our table. I crouch down when I get close to her.

"Hello, there. I am Lex, what is your name sweetie?"

I can tell she wants to run as she is looking around at everyone as if she is looking for permission.

"It is ok. I am actually Alpha King Lex, you are safe here. I want to help you get some food and drink and would like you to sit with Luna Queen Envy at our table. How does that sound?" I say in a very soft voice.

"Ummm uhhhh, I am Ava. I have to ask Alpha Viggo. He told me I have to stay quiet and wait till everyone else gets their food before I can get mine. Then I am to take it near him and sit on the floor by him."

"What? That will not do. You will come with me now." I say with a stern but soft voice to not scare her.

I hold out my hand to take hers into mine. She looks toward Viggo and I quickly look his way. I see his eyes go wide as she takes my hand. I wait for him to say something. All he does is nod his head as if telling her she is allowed to go with me. She looks up at me with a small smile. I look up and see both the pack members all staring at me. I notice they all make a path for Ava and me to get the first bit of food.

"So Ava, what would you like to eat? We have pork, venison, hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, sausage, steak, and kebabs. We also have macaroni salad, pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, various chips, deviled eggs, salad, corn on the cob, mac and cheese, and green bean casserole. So what will it be?"

"I am not sure I am just given food, I never get to pick what I want."

"Well, in that case, let's see. We will get you one of everything. Then you can try everything and see what you like and then you eat that." I say smiling at Ava.

"But that is a lot of food. I won't eat it all." Ava replies with a sad tone in her voice.

"That is okay sweetie, you will then know what you like, and then later you can pick what you want. Also, I am sure it is okay that you do not finish the food. I would rather you get and eat what you like than not get enough food." I say to her smiling.

I hand Ava a plate to hold and I put the meat on for her. I grab two more plates and fill them with one scoop of everything else so she can taste it all. I walk her to the drink station.

"So Ava, what would you like to drink?"

"Just water."

I look at her confused. A kid would pick water over a sweet tasty drink.
