── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──SHE SAT DOWN AGAINSED a tree to observe the others who were sleeping peacefully nearby. Seeing them free from pressure made her smile faintly. It was only a few hours ago that everyone down by the stream had been in a panic. When they were asleep, their faces were lacking any emotion, just peace and at ease in their hopefully━good dreams.
Jasper and Octavia were cuddled up side by side, the girl's head on his chest. Reese couldn't contain her smile seeing the two━happy Octavia was able to find trust in someone else two who were, not just her friends.
Looking up, she was met with the most beautiful scene she's ever seen. The blue misty fog covered the forest in the distance, blue and purple flowers aglow and illuminating a faint dulcet tint shining on Reese's face and hands; placed on her lap. If there wasn't a spark inside her, then they were in her eyes. A glimmer of bliss and awe at the almost painted-like scenery. A painting only one's creative mind could come up with and perfect with just the colors white, blue, navy, and purple.
Her heart sank at not being able to write out, and quickly sketch the scene in front of her so she wouldn't forget. Afraid once she got back to the dropship, she would forget their little journey━especially this.
The only one she would likely remember is Octavia almost getting drowned by a snake. That definitely wasn't a good thing━and at that moment, she wasn't even surprised that she predicted such a thing.
Her book.
Heart sinking to her feet, her shaky hand quickly rummaging around her pocket in her damp pants━still not dried from her little adventure in the river. The familiar shape of her notebook reminds her of that, and her brows furrow.
Taking it out of her secret pocket━she holds it prudently despite her shaken form, now feeling the effects of what it was like to sit in the cold night with wet clothing. Maybe not the best idea, just another thing she had to put in her book.
Eyes scanning continuously over the curved book, all hope is lost when she feels it's damp, having the pages and edges turned from the water that had dried earlier.
"No, no, no━" she whispered frantically, fingers flapping through the dried crinkled pages.
Much to her luck, most pages were unharmed, and the blank ones were obviously still usable. The one drawing that was ruined was of course━her second favorite one.
Tears glisten in her eyes, looking like purple food dye from the bright purple lights that glowed in the night as crickets chirped harmonically in the distance.
The drawing of her mother.
The perfect drawing of her mother was now smudged. The thin black ink had run oozing across her face, it almost looked like what Reese had seen every time she looked outside the window from the Ark.
Darkness.
A brutal sniffle travels through her, causing her whole body to shake with grief and regret from jumping in the water. She had just wanted to cool off, lighten up a little━and have some fun now that she was on Earth. But she could never do anything without it having a negative outcome.
