I woke up in a sweat.
A few seconds ago, I was stuck in a nightmare where I was strangely helpless, left to rot somewhere dark. I took a look around my room to make sure I was awake. Sure enough, I was.
It was illuminated in a dark purple glow, the source of it being those LED strip lights Suki had installed on the ceiling to 'help her sleep better'. As I said, it was only a purple glow, so it wasn't bright enough to disturb my sleep. Still, without the lights, at least I don't have to see what's in the dark. Sometimes, I see shadows around the room and it freaks me the f out.
My eyes guided themselves to a bed opposite to mine, where Suki slept.. Ever since Suki moved in, I had to use another bed because I'm not sharing beds with anyone and she needed the space. She and I are around the same height so why Vlad King allowed her to use my bed is anyone's guess. Since our quirks are kinda similar, I guess she has some problems with her splitting apart every time she sleeps? But like I said, it's anyone's guess.
It was still surreal. Suki seemed weird but in a good way. Like a little sibling, as weird as that sounds. She can be a little quirky like one too; yesterday she tried to draw in some kind of notebook and her drawings were of animals made out of food. It almost got my mouth watering, especially after I saw one of her drawings of a dinosaur with celery stalks for legs and avocado seeds for eyes. Childish, maybe, but I could never understand that girl..
Mhm, that dino must taste good-
Anyways, I then took a glance at a digital alarm clock, which neatly sat on a nearby nightstand beside my bed. The clock read "6:43 am" in neon green numerals placed on a black background.
6:43? Must be morning already.
I slid out of my bedsheets and into my slippers, then I made a trek (without making any loud footsteps) to the door. I opened it without any problems, except for the hallway lights. They were bright for my darkness-adjusted eyes, too bright.
And standing there, on her way to the washroom with a towel and a toothbrush in her hand, was Ibara.
"Oh, good morning, Tokage-san. Are you also on your way to wash up?"
She gestured for me to join her for breakfast, so I kinda spent the morning with Ibara. It turns out she makes a mean cup of tea.
As we sat there, munching on some french toast, I was able to work up the nerve to ask her-
"Isn't it odd?"
Ibara glanced at me. It's possible she knew what I was gonna ask, or she was just genuinely curious to have not finished her 3rd cup of herbal tea.
"About what happened at USJ. It's enough that villains attacked, but then we suddenly get a couple of new students when the entrance exam is already done and booked?"
Ibara agreed with a nod.
"Why would the school accept new students?"
After a moment of silence, she replied, "I'm not sure."
I waited for her to add anything after that, but she remained silent. The expression on her face when I glanced up at her was indescribable. Even she was at a loss for an answer.
"It's not that I don't like them. It's just...an unsettling thought I had."
Ibara nodded alongside my words, chipping in,
"It was a question my mind was too curious to ask. However, Ryu told me not to worry about it."
And that's it? He told her to 'not worry about it'?
No, she must be hiding something from me. Personally, I don't get why it's such a big deal for her to lie about it.
"Why do you wanna know?"
Fumi proceeded to jump outta nowhere and scare us, almost making me jump out of my seat and made me spill my drink too!
"Impeccable timing, Tokoyami."
