Swirling my finger around the brim of my coffee mug, Knox takes a seat next to me. Laying his hand on my wrist. "Babe, don't be nervous." He coos.
I sigh softly. "I don't know if it's nerves or anxiety. It's hard to tell these days."
He caresses my arm with his tan fingers. Watching the busy coffee shop door, constantly ringing as people come and go. Knox lifts my hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss on top. "Eileen!" My brother Eric hollers as he enters the coffee shop.
Making his way to the table I wrap my arms around him. "Hey, Eric!"
Eric greets my hug with another. "I've missed you, Eileen." Wrinkles form around the corner of his mouth as his lip tugs up into a grin, squeezing me just a little harder. Gosh time sure flies, every time I see Eric he looks a little older.
"I've missed you too."
He takes a long look at me like it has been years since we last saw each other. As Knox stands up the two shake hands and give each other a quick hug. "Nice to see you again, Eric."
"Same to you, Knox." Eric nods, taking a seat at our table.
"Can I get you a coffee?" Knox inquires.
"Sure, please. Just a black coffee."
"You got it." Knox swirls on his heels towards the counter.
He takes a seat in the black metal chair across from mine. "I feel like I haven't seen you in so long."
Taking a sip of my tea I nod. "It has. How's medical school?"
He pulls his coat off and ruffles his black hair. "I finished early, last week."
"Eric! You never told me."
"I didn't want to make it a big deal-"
I gently shove him in the shoulder, "It is a big deal."
Knox lays a steaming cup of coffee in front of Eric. "Here ya are." He lays a few sugars beside the cup.
"Thanks, Knox."
Knox nods in acknowledgment of his thanks. "I don't want to dampen the mood, but, Chang called Eileen yesterday. He hasn't tried to contact her in the last three years. Any ideas as to what that's about?"
Eric wraps his hands around the warm cup, shaking his head. "Not a clue. I've not gotten anything from him."
Knox gently grasps my thigh. His blue eyes wander over to me, making sure I'm okay. I love the way he cares for me, the way he looks at me.
