It was a nice sunny day. One of the last this summer. Autumn was already on it's way, the days get colder, the leaves change into beautiful reds and oranges.

You were on your way to work. It's a beautiful little cafe near a small park in Upstate New York, run by a nice older lady, that wants you to take over when it's time.

Today started good at first, but soon it went downhill. Mrs. Svorski, the nice old lady, had a heart attack and needed to go to the hospital. You closed the cafe for the day and went with her, so she wouldn't feel lonely.

You liked the old lady. She was like a grandma to you, but she saw herself more like your very own fairy godmother. Mrs. Svorski taught you everything in this business. Having no connection to her own family, you soon became her family, so she changed her last will to your benefit.

Still being full of optimism, you thought that Mrs. Svorski could survive this heart attack, but when the doctors came to you with this solemn expression, you knew she didn't make it. A pang of sadness shot through you body.

Thanking the doctors for their effort, you sent them a sad smile and headed out.

A few days later was the funeral.

Not many people were there, but it was nice and she would have wanted it that way. The whole time you were on the verge of tears but decided that you wouldn't cry.

She wouldn't have wanted it.

That's what you told yourself. It was her time to leave this world behind, just like everybody's time will come. Some sooner, some later.

You were fine. Sure the days were dull and almost a constant haze but you were fine.

It's been a month since Mrs. Svorski died and the days got easier. You moved into the apartment above the cafe and run it now. Everything's going well so far.

This morning you opened the cafe and it was already starting to rain. Great you think. It meant that today is going to be low on customers, but that's alright.

You were just baking some cookies in the back when you hear the bell from the door jingle, announcing a customer. So you step to the front to welcome the customer while you brush your hands off on your apron.

As you look up you are met by gorgeous steel blue eyes. Eventually you notice you're staring so you move your eyes all over him. He has a chiseled jaw. Brown hair that reaches just above his shoulders, making you want to brush your fingers through it. He's good build. And tall, you have to look up to look him properly in the eye.

You notice he's dripping wet from the pouring rain outside and you start to shiver just by the sight of him.

"Hello, I'm Y/N. How can I help you?" you greet him with a bright smile.

He doesn't answer you directly so you guess he's not the type of guy to talk much. Maybe he's even shy.

You round the counter taking a towel with you. When you stand in front of him you stretch out your arm with the towel and an assuring smile.

"Take it. You're dripping wet, you're gonna catch a cold. Now sit down and I'll get you a warm cup of coffee." you demand a bit and he follows your instructions.

You get a cup of coffee as well as sweetener and milk. Sitting down in front of him you push the cup towards him and he eyes it warily.

"I didn't poison the coffee, sweetie." you send him a small smile and he takes the mug in his hands. Bringing it to his lips he takes a small sip and lets out a content sigh.

After that you stand up again and get some pastries for him to eat. You give them to him and the same tentativeness towards the coffee repeats with the pastries.

After a while more customers come in and he starts to tense up. You move him to a booth in a corner near the counter but still not very visible to the rest of the customers. It seems to calm him but he's still stiff.

The stranger stays in the booth while the other customers start leaving again. It's almost closing time and the stranger seems still a bit lost.

So you close the cafe a little early today and sit down with him again after you got some papers to be productive. You just keep him company.

"Hey Mr. Stranger," you break the silence with a slight laugh and he looks up from his covered hands, "I really have to close now. It's almost midnight and I don't know if I can let you out in the dark alone. So you want me to get you a cab, call someone, drive you home or bring you to the subway, anything?"

You look at him with a frown, hoping he would tell you what he needs. But he doesn't.

You take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds before letting it out again.

"Ohhkay. We don't get anywhere like this sweetie." you sigh, "Please tell me something or do something, else I'm gonna start to consider you as statue and include you in my decoration and I don't think you would want this." you joke and see the corner of his lips tug up a bit.

If you wouldn't be so attentive you would've missed it, so you chuckle a bit.

Eventually he decides to stand up and leave, but as brash as you always are you pack some pastries and so on for him and tell him that he can come back any time he wants.

He doesn't give you a reaction, but you still give him a bright smile.

It was supposed to be a dull day. But your meeting with the handsome mystery guy, made your day much better.
