IZ*ONE as Romantic Tropes! (1/2)

—Eunbi as "High School Sweethearts"
Imagine running late from work, glancing at your watch in worry and anxiousness as you sit in the back of the cab, doing your best to be patient so the kind, old driver can get you home safely. You open your phone a couple of times to try to let time pass and see that your girlfriend, soon to be wife, has sent multiple texts: asking where you are and if you still want to have the date tonight. You quickly reply and say you do and apologize for running late and got too caught up with paperwork for your unfortunately, really lousy boss. Eunbi tells you it's okay because she knows how stubborn your boss can be and before you know it, you're home. You walk into the comfort of it and is immediately greeted by your fiancé. She hugs you tightly, hands wrapping around your waist and warmth invades your body as your relax in the hold. You feel safe in her arms and suddenly, remember that you've been together since you've both graduated high school. Now, you're about to get married to someone you've always been thankful for and in love with. The both of you forget about the date, mutually agreeing to spend the night at home in each others arms and eating gummy bears.

—Sakura as "Best Friend's Older Sister"
You're at your best friend's house, on your weekly movie night. It was a designated Friday afternoon, you both have no more homework and are ready to sleep away the stress collected over the week. You glance over to your friend, both laying on her bed, and see that she's asleep; legs tangled around her covers and a cat pillow wrapped around her hands. Taking your phone, you snap a few pictures of her to use for later (Blackmail!) and get up, turning the laptop off and taking the used dishes downstairs to wash. As your rinsing out a cup, you hear someone walk into the kitchen. You turn in surprise, a little startled but calm down when you realize it's just your friend's sister, Sakura. She apologizes for scaring you but you brush it off and just shake your hand. Because you totally forgot what you were doing, the cup suddenly falls to the ground and the glass shatters. Sakura gasps and walks over to you to help but you quickly crouch down and grab her wrist before she can touch the shards. You see her face redden and cough the tension away, saying you would clean it yourself and that she could leave if she'd like. The older shakes her head, much to your confusion, and watches as you clean. You feel small under her gaze and have the courage to ask her why she decided to stay. Sakura just shrugs and admits that she thinks you're cute and wanted to see you longer. It makes you flush and you grow shy, quickly throwing the broken pieces away and excusing yourself back to the room where your friend is now awake, smirking at you when you walk in. You both know what the grin means and it makes you throw a hand over your face in embarrassment as you recall the events.

—Hyewon as "Right Person, Wrong Time"
Your breathing is uneven as you watch Hyewon walk away, back facing you. Tears threaten to fall and your chest feels heavy. You both didn't want to say goodbye but time was never on you side. You guys were a match made in heaven, complimenting one another in the best ways possible. If it wasn't for her selfish, reckless parents, you wouldn't be falling apart in the middle of the busy streets of Seoul. You wouldn't be watching the love of your life walk away from you completely. Instead, you'd be at home with her, cuddled up in your bed as you guys caught up with Hyewon's newest anime she'd taken interest in. You'd be eating takeout from you guy's favorite Chinese restaurant and ranting about what's the best color for each subject in school. The best you can do it wipe away your tears and forced yourself to stand, calming yourself down before taking reluctant steps away. As you drag yourself home, you can only hope Hyewon looked back once, maybe twice, at least thought about running back to you. And if not, then maybe in another universe she would and you'd be happy together.

—Yena as "Best Friends to Lovers"
You realize the way you look as Yena, is different from the way you look at other friends, just like Hii-chan said. She said your gaze lingers on the girl longer than usual. Your eyes sparkle in a way she'd never seen before. And your smile and gentle nature around the girl just confirmed everything you were in denial about. You take time to think about your feelings and soon come to realize, you've been in love with Yena this whole time. You're the only one who can put up with her antics and never grow tired of it. You can deal with an obnoxious and annoyingly cute drunk Yena no matter what and you're always the first to be there for her when she needs. It's safe to say you'd do practically anything for her even before the romantic feelings were there. After contemplating lots of things, you decide to ask the girl out because you can never look at her the same way as a best friend anymore and even if she rejects you, you'd like to continue liking her, knowing she means much more to you than she thinks. And at the end of the day, you're thriving, life's good, and have an amazing girlfriend who just so happens to look like a duck.

—Chaeyeon as "Love at First Sight"
You take dance lessons after school since your parents wanted you to have something to do instead of rotting in bed all day. Despite protesting at first, you grew to enjoy the activity and is planning on making it a career of yours if you can. It's your monthly evaluation and your group had to create a new routine in order to pass this month's challenge. The dance wasn't too hard and you thought you'd guarantee yourself a good position for the future. As the rest of your teammates leave for the night, you decide to stay back and get extra practice in, as your a perfectionist and cannot handle making mistakes. After about an hour and a half of replaying the songs over and over again, you take a break and sit down against the mirror. As you rest, you close your eyes and suddenly hear the door of the room open. Your eyes shoot open and you're met with the slim figure of another woman, cap and crop top on. Her hair harbors a light pink and you suddenly feel in awe as you watch her set up her phone and begin dancing. You choose to stay seated and watch her dance, growing red when she makes eye contact with you in the middle of the routine.

—Chaewon as "Girl Next Door"
You run into your neighbor next to your apartment every so often to point you begin to enjoy seeing her and giggling over every small interaction you guys share. It wasn't until later when you find the courage to invite her somewhere to eat and surprisingly, she agrees. You guys spend the weekend together and later, you drive her home. It's a funny situation because you guts live right next to each other and you share a laugh with her as you guys make it up the elevator. You walk her to her door and she turns to you, thanking you and saying she hopes to see you more often. You agree and promise to meet her more. She bids you a goodbye and says something stupid; "See ya neighbor!" before walking in and closing the door. You smile to yourself because of how cute you think she is but then cringe at how the statement sounded. When you make it to your apartment, she texts you: [ K.Chaewon (pretty neighbor) : that was so cringy im so sorry, i'll never say that again ] You laugh at the message and just tells her goodnight, awaiting what the future has for the both of you.
