I woke up the next morning and after eating toast and eggs started getting read. Hair and makeup and a nice top. "You look to good, you don't look sick enough." Said Reba. "Oh yea? Shoulda seen me before I had Dialysis dad said I looked like a ghost." I shrugged. "I can't believe you saw dad. I can't believe our dad is Jack Odonald." "I know isn't it crazy?" I asked. "Yea, I jut can't believe he wouldn't help you. I mean it's literally the least he could do. Do you ever think about having kids?" She asked.
"Sure, I'd like kids. Why do you ask?" "Well I mean how do you know how to be a good mom, ours is bat crazy." She said. "Well we just look at it as, we learned what not to do. Besides I jut figured we'd be like Grandma." I shrugged. "Ooh good point. I hope we find you a donor today. And I'm sorry I wasn't a match. I wanted to help." I said. "I know, and that means a lot to me." I said. She gave me a hug. "I'm gonna go get changed so we can go." Said Reba standing up from her sitting position on my bed.
I slipped into some shoes and came out to find my grandparents ready to go. Reba came out moments later. We headed to the ball park. I was impressed. Carter's dad's crew had done an amazing job on the games. I saw tons of games. Dunk booth, ring toss, throw bean bags at milk bottles that sort of thing. Then I saw food. Zyler's dad was on the grill and it smelled wonderful. I saw cotton candy and drinks being passed out.
I walked up and saw Carter's mom taking someone's blood. She looked up and saw me. "Oh Mac honey, I'm so glad you're hear. I just started but I've already tested seven people! I just know were going to find a match." She said. "I really hope so." I nodded. I noticed even Eva, Carter's mom had gotten tested. Once she was done taking the blood of Mr. Ramirez she wrapped me in a big hug. "Honey, we're gonna find you a kidney. Mark my words." She said. "I hope you're right." I said. "Go and find Carter he's in the dunk tank."
I chuckled. "Absolutely." I had a great arm. He saw me coming his way and waved. "Hey Mac. Wanna give a throw?" He asked. "Only if you wanna get wet?" I asked. "You're dreaming." I picked three of the balls up and stood back on the line. The first one missed but the second one hit the target and he went down. He came up splashing. "Okay I was not expecting that." He said. Water dripped down his abs. His white shirt stuck to him. "Looking good Johnson." Said Mallory Banks. "I need to grab some cotton candy for my brother and I'm gonna come back and take my shot." She said. "I'll be right here." Mallory left and I walked up to Carter.
"Wow she so has a crush on you." I said. "You think?" He asked. "Yea, I guess all the workouts are paying off." I shrugged. "Have you noticed?" He asked. "The whole ball field can tell you work out." I smirked. "Oh okay, I see." He said. "Quick duck Mallory is coming back." "What? Where?" He ducked under the water. "Where did Carter go?" She asked. "Oh he had to use the bathroom, go see if you can find him." I said. She tried to peer into the water but couldn't see him. "I'll be back." She said skipping off. He came up. "She gone?" He asked. "Yep." "Good call on the ducking." "I got your back." I said. People kept coming up to me and hugging me and showing me that they had gotten tested. I cried a little bit every time. I was just so touched.
Zyler was hanging out by Mike his dad. He had gotten tested. "Hey Zy Ms. Zimmerman was just asking for you." I said. "Ha-ha you know I'm gonna regret telling you about her." He said. "Nah, I'm just kidding." I said. "How're you feeling today?" He asked. "I'm okay, I have to run the Dialysis machine again later today though." I said. "Oh gotcha, I'm glad they sent that." He said. "Me too." I ran into Rosie and we played the games together stopping only to grab a burger and some cotton candy. When the day winded down I gave a speech.
"Thank you so much to everyone who took the time out of there day to come get tested. And to everyone who made this day possible. This means so much to me, and I love and appreciate each and every one of you." I said. The all chattered back there I love you's and they were happy to do it. We got the ball park cleaned up and headed home. I knew I had to wait a week for the results but my friends kept me company. When the week was finally up my doctor called me. "Mac I have great news. One of the people we tested was a match. A Gloria Davies." She said. "Oh my old piano teacher!" I grinned. "We gave her a call and she has agreed to do it. So I wanted to schedule you for surgery next week if that's okay. That way you'll be healed in time to start College." He said.
"This is wonderful news, thank you so much doctor." I said. I couldn't wait to tell everyone the good news. Over dinner I told my family. "Oh honey, I'm so happy for you." My grandmother said hugging me tight. "College bound, I always knew you were gonna do it." He said patting my head. "Well I was thinking, maybe if college didn't pan out I'd be a dolly Parton impersonator." "No you will not, one crack pot daughter is enough." He said. "I was kidding." We finished dinner and I headed to get ice cream with the gang.
"Guys!! They found a match!!" I said before I even said hi. "What? That's great news!!" Carter said wrapping me up into a tight hug. "Yea, when's the surgery?" Asked Rosie. "Next week, now I'm totally nervous." I said. "No need to be, we'll be there before surgery and we'll be there as soon as you wake up and you'll be good as new with a super cool scar to boot." He said.
"You know surgery can end badly." I said. "Can, but won't." Carter said. I took a deep breath nodding. They had already ordered ice cream so I ordered some and took a seat next to them. "So did Mallory end up coming back to dunk you?" I asked Carter. "Seventeen times. She just would not quit." He said shaking his head. "I casually slipped it into the conversation that I had a girlfriend." He said. "Oh you are good." I said. "Yea then she left, on to her next victim." Said Carter. "Be nice, Mallory is nice enough she's just really cheerful." I said. "And she got tested too." Said Rosie. "Then I take back what I said." Said Carter. We laughed and joked a bit more then we headed home.
