"Haruhi," called a familiar raspy voice from behind her. She quickly turned around to see Bakugo about ten paces back. She was surprised that he was calling to her, to say the least. After what happened ten months ago, she thought he might never talk to her again. She gave him a weak smile as he caught up to her and the two continued walking down the street together. "So," he started after a couple minutes of tense silence. "You made it through the exams," he continued. She looked at him without turning her head as they kept walking. "And so did Midoriya," he said with distain. Haruhi blinked hard as she felt her face get hot with anger and her hands clenched tight around the straps of her bag. "Listen Kacchan, if you only wanted to talk to me because of Midoriya," she said nervously as he interrupted her. "I know, I know. For some damn reason you like that nerd, so I won't talk about him. Got it?" He said in an irritated voice. Now she was even more confused. Why is he walking home with me after all this time? She thought. They did live on the same street so it made sense to walk home together, and they used to before the incident, but up until now he had seemed to be avoiding her. So why now?
After another couple minutes of silence they approached the street they both lived on. Haruhi's house would come up first. "I just wanted to congratulate you," Katsuki said more under his breath than before. Haruhi was shocked and she looked at him. "Thanks Kacchan," she said softly with a smile. "I would congratulate you, but I knew you'd make it in no problem," she added as they continued walking. Soon they approached her house and they both stopped walking. "I guess I'll see you in class tomorrow," Haruhi said, forcing a smile. Katsuki shrugged. "Guess so." Haruhi began walking up to her house when she suddenly stopped and turned around. "Kacchan," she said, making him turn to face her. "Can we be friends again?" She asked. His face seemed to relax for once. He gave her a smirk, and walked away without a word.
Haruhi told her mother about her first day and not too long later, she quickly fell asleep before she could even eat dinner. Haruhi barely survived her first day at UA. She was excited and nervous for her second day at the prestigious school.
The next day, they had some pretty normal classes for the first part of the day, and after lunch they finally had hero basic training with All Might. Before the course began, each student was issued their own hero uniforms, based on the request forms they had submitted before the school year began. "Now, should we all get started? You bunch-a newbies," All Might said with his famous smile as everyone walked out into the training arena with their shiny new costumes. The training was in the fake city that the entrance exam took place in, but this time they would be inside a building instead of on the streets. The students were split into groups of four, where two would be the "heros" and the other two would be the "villains". Haruhi was paired with a boy named Mashirao Ojiro. His quirk was called tail- and it's pretty self explanatory. Midoriya was paired with a girl named Ochako Uraraka. Her power is called gravity, she can make things float but only if she touches them. And Bakugo was paired with a boy named Tenya Iida. His family is very prominent in the hero world. His quirk is engine. He has engines in his legs helping him with his speed. Most of the battles revolved around strategy, however Bakugo's team was put against Midoriya's which meant there was a fight. Bakugo and Midoriya- who decided his hero name was Deku, fought hard, and some of the other students even pleaded with All Might to stop the fight. And though he watched closely, he didn't intervene. It looked like Bakugo was going for blood against Midoriya, and Haruhi knew he wouldn't hold back. Haruhi was shaking. She knew the history Bakugo had hating Midoriya, and she knew how badly he wanted to prove himself. The students couldn't see or hear everything that was going on in the battle, but from Haruhi's perspective things looked bleak. She could barely stand to watch, but she didn't dare look away. Midoriya and Ururaka ended up pulling out a win, even though the building was in pretty bad shape after the battle between Bakugo and Midoriya. Somehow everyone came out safe.
After all the battles had been fought and the school day was over, Haruhi packed up her things along with the others and she started her walk home. She looked for Katsuki as she walked out of the school, but she couldn't find him. She didn't know what she would say to him, but she knew she wanted to walk home with him again. As she walked home she thought about when they were little. She always spent time with Midoriya and Bakugo, especially Bakugo since they lived so close to each other. She remembered times when it would just be the two of them playing at the park or waking down to the water. He didn't seem as angry those days. Maybe he didn't feel like he had to put on a show for me, she thought. I'm not sure if I should be flattered or not. She continued her walk home in silence.
Just before the turn down her street was the park they used to play at, and today she decided to stop by to remember old times and relax before going home to do homework. She put her bag down and sat on one of the empty swings, looking at the trees around her lost in thought. Not too long later someone sat next to her causing her to look over. It was Bakugo. "Kacchan," she said, surprised. "Why are you here," he said back seemingly without emotion. She continued to look at him. "I was just thinking about simpler times," she said back. He didn't respond. "Kacchan, we grew up together. I know you better than anyone else- at least I think I do. But I still don't understand one thing about you," she said. "Why do you hate Midoriya so much?" She asked, anxiously awaiting his response. "That damn nerd," he said under his breath, now with anger clear on his face. His grip on the chains of the swing tightened as he looked at the ground. "He always looked down on me. Treated me as less than him. He had a perfect family, perfect home- perfect everything. He always wanted to help people who he looked down on, and he always tried to help me," he said. Haruhi thought about his words as her gaze too looked to the ground. She knew Midoriya was never trying to make Katsuki feel like that, but that's just how he felt. She knew Katsuki's home life wasn't perfect, she'd known that for a long time. That's why he resents Midoriya so much, she thought. He feels like he can never live up to his mother's expectations, while Midoriya's mother loves him no matter what. It's a deep seeded jealousy and longing to belong.
A few moments later his phone began to ring, it was his mother. He ignored it. He took a deep breath before standing up, never looking up from the ground. "I have to go," he said. Haruhi stood up and faced him. "I should go too," she said quietly. "Kacchan I never-," Haruhi stepped closer to him, but he interrupted her and turned away. "Look just forget it," he said over his shoulder at her as he walked away. She wanted to chase after him, but she feared it would only make him feel worse. Haruhi went home.
