This morning I left home to go to the grocery store that was a few blocks away from my house. The only thing that's good about a big city is that everything is within walking distance. I just needed an excuse to leave. Since I don't work anymore nor do I have Javi and Grace, it's boring these days.
As I walked through the aisles, I saw they are selling school supplies now. I can't believe August is almost here. Time for the kids to go back to school, and for me to do absolutely nothing with my life like usual.
I let out a sigh.
"You sound like you have problems."
I jumped at the sound of a male voice that was right behind me. I quickly spun around.
"Tyler!"
I looked beside him to see a kid, not much younger than me but he's still a kid.
"Who are you", the kid asked.
Tyler elbowed him in the side.
"Don't say it like that, it's rude", Tyler said.
"Ow! I-I'm sorry...I mean...how do you know each other?"
That's a good question. We've bumped into each other so many times, what is our relationship at this point? I don't think we are there when it comes to friendship so...
"We're acquaintances," I said.
Tyler gave me a look.
I looked at him back, giving him a questionable expression as if what I said was wrong. He ended up not saying anything about it.
"This is Masen, he just needed school supplies so that's why we're here", Tyler said.
"Are you excited to go back to school", I asked.
"I actually haven't been in school in a while but I'm happy to start. I'm going to be in ninth grade."
"Wow, a high school student. I just graduated a few months ago."
He looked me up and down.
"Really? You look my age."
I squinted my eyes.
"But I'm not", I said through gritted teeth.
He then looked over my shoulder.
"Hey Tyler, I see a backpack I like."
"Go over and look around before you decide", Tyler said.
"Okay!"
It was just me and him now.
"So...", I started.
"So."
"Looks like things are going well for you", I said.
