Rootspring and Shadowsight walked behind Leafstar and a small group of warriors pulling Harrybrook back into camp. The sky was clear but there was a strange stillness in the air. Rootspring needed to get Shadowsight away from the others. He nudged Shadowsight and stopped off to the side near a big evergreen tree.
"What the heck was that, Shadowsight?" Rootspring whispered nervously. "You were on the ground right next to his body? We walked right by him!"
"Root, love, you're being too loud the others will hear you." Shadowsight replied looking around. "There was this voice..."
Both mates were drawn from their conversation by a piercing yowl. They sprinted into the camp clearing. They found the yowl had come from Reedclaw. Leafstar had her claws sunk deep into Reedclaw's shoulders. Reedclaw scrambled around and pushed against Leafstar's belly. A warrior jumped in and grabbed Reedclaw by the scruff.
"What have you done with Harrybrook?" Leafstar hissed.
"I've done nothing Leafstar." Reedclaw snapped.
"We all know you have a grudge against my son and his wife!" Leafstar paced in front of Reedclaw.
"You don't! I may not like his mouse-fodder of a wife but I'd never do anything to him." Reedclaw threw a hard stare at Blossomheart.
Leafstar looked at the rest of her clan. "Go about your duties everyone. I'll deal with his back stabber, or should I say neck stabber."
Reedclaw snarled behind her. Leafstar turned around and motioned for the warrior to follow her. "Violetshine, let's go."
Violetshine pulled Reedclaw up and drug her forward. Reedclaw shook her head and ripped away from Violetshine.
"I can walk by myself, thank you very much." She snarled at Violetshine.
"Be my guest, don't you dare think about running." Violetshine replied.
Leafstar walked into her den, Reedclaw entered, followed by Violetshine.
"Leafstar, a word if you may?" Violetshine meowed with a worried glance.
"Stay here, Reedclaw."
Violetshine and Leafstar walked right outside of the den.
"Reedclaw talked to me a while ago..." Violetshine began. "You're suspicions are correct, she has a strong grudge against Blossomheart."
"Ah, of course. How can you be certain Violetshine?" Leafstar held Violetshine's gaze steadily.
"She told me she wanted to kill Blossomheart after Harrybrook left." Violetshine looked away from Leafstar.
Leafstar padded back into her den. She threw a backwards glance at Violet. "Go get Tree."
Violetshine ran off towards Tree. Looking through each group of cats talking amongst themselves. She saw Hawkwing.
"Dad! Why don't you come with me. Leafstar might need some support through this."
"The fish." He replied and followed Violetshine.
Violetshine found Tree with Hawkwing in tow. Violetshine heard Tree sigh as he got up, he already knew he was called to mediate.
The groups entered Leafstar's den, Hawkwing sat in the corner. Leafstar looked at him puzzled, then through a questioning glance at Violetshine.
"What? He's good moral support."
Tree stood in front of Reedclaw. Violetshine and Leafstar sat off to the side.
"Uh, what were you doing when Harrybrook went missing? Tree began.
"I was out hunting." she muttered. "I haven't spoken to Harrybrook in ages! I didn't want him dead."
"Reedclaw, your alibi is horrific." Tree gave her a hard stare. "We can't let you go off of empty remarks."
"I didn't kill the father of my kits!" Reedclaw exclaimed. "You have no proof."
"You don't have any proof either." Tree replied.
"The fish." Hawkwing said staring at Reedclaw.
"Father..." Violetshine looked at him.
"She's not going to spill anything. I need more proof. Keep an eye on her." Tree muttered to Leafstar.
The group left their leader's den and split off to their own dens.
Did Reedclaw kill Harrybrook? Why did a voice talk to Shadowsight?
