A Feeling

-Camilo's pov-

A sigh of relief left Amira's mouth as her family walked down the stairs. Peggy hand in hand with Ricardo. She had her usual rigid look plastered on, though instead of stern and unapproachable, she looked genuinely melancholy and despondent. Maybe it was the fact her fine posture was reduced to a hunched back. Or her smooth curls were so tangled it could've been a bird's nest.

I could barely began to imagine what she was going through, being as young as she is. Only three years younger, but still only fourteen.

The plan went as hoped, she took a slice of cake. My mouth was drooling at the thought of now being able to get my own slice, but the look on her family's face had me shaken up. Now my mind was set on anything but food.

All of them watched the girl with emotional eyes, barely hidden. Peggy seemed so, out of it. She excused herself, taking her plate and herself out of the house.

Not even a glance at Amira and I simply understood she had to go with her sister. But Ric held her back, whispering something about Peggy being okay? And she might just need some alone time outside of the house.

Reluctant, Ami lowered her head in dissatisfaction. Her eyes glinted with pain as she nodded, sighing before locking eyes with me. She didn't need to say anything for me to know she wanted me to distract her from this mess.

Acknowledging her wishes, I slip my hand through hers and take her upstairs to her room. The bed was still disordly, the quilt muddled up in one pile due to me rolling around in bed. I'd woken up alone, and tried to feel around for my girlfriend who wasn't even there. "Sorry amor, I'll fix that up." I scoff at my own ignorance.

"Nah, it's okay. I like it that way, reminds me I've got you."

"Me to mess around your covers, yes, lovely reminder."

"No you doofus, I meant I've always got you to love, and rely on. I can't rely on you to fix up my bed but other things." She giggles in an empty tone. Then makes herself comfortable as she sits on the edge of her untidy bed.

I hesitated to sit next to her when an unpleasant feeling hit my stomach. For a moment I assumed I needed the bathroom, but that certainly wasn't it.

-Narrator's pov-

Camilo's intuition was desperately telling him something. Though the message was, unclear.

Too vague to understand.

Too exhorting to ignore.

"Amira, can we go to the mountains? Or the library?" Any place but here.

"Since when have you ever been to the library?" Peering up at him with perplexed, dull, brown eyes.

He wasn't entirely sure why'd the library had been a choice. It was on the other side of town for godsake. A long walk.

It was on the other side of town.

A long walk.

"Can we just... please? I'm feeling... active." In an attempt to look enthusiastic, he pulls himself and Amira off the bed. A glowing smile spread across his handsome features.

Amira could see through it though.

"What are you talking about? That's definitely not it." A laugh takes her mind off of reality, only for a moment. Just a sweet, funny second.

"Anywhere but here, okay?" It's less of a question now, slight panic hinting through his voice as he opens her bedroom window.

"Why?" She's confused, as expected. Though an answer is not received, only silence.
