Laurel and I walked into the building together, and were immediately greeted by our friends.
In freshman year, we discovered a group of kids at school that listened to the same bands we listened to, and since then, the group of us have been really good friends, eating lunch together and hanging out after school.
My friends Jack, Justin, and Nick all hugged and fist-bumped me. We chatted about our summers and went over to the office to pick up our schedules.

"Hey man, did you hear about Morrissey?" asked Justin, looking somewhat concerned.

"Yea, I did. It sucks but unfortunately that's life." He nodded and moved along with the line.

Soon we were at the front of the line, and the school secretary, Mrs. Nelson, was handing us our schedules for the year. I looked over it quickly.

AP Chemistry first period.

Trig second period.

English third period.

History fourth period.

Fifth period lunch.

Study hall with Ms. Jameson.

Psychology seventh period.

AP Spanish eighth period.

I was in for a really busy year.

It turns out that Jack, Laurel, and I had the exact same schedules, and I was super stoked because I would be able to hang out with my friends for literally the entire day.

The first bell rung, and I reported to homeroom. I walked into room 206 and took a seat all the way in the back of the classroom. The chemistry teacher, Mr. Massey, was the homeroom teacher. He gave us all a speech on how serious Junior year is. Then he took attendance and at 8:40 he sent us to our first period class.

The day was flying by, surprisingly. By the time I knew it, it was fourth period already, and Laurel and I were entering the History room together. The room looked really different from when Mr. Morrissey was around. The desks were aligned in a circle, and there was a relatively small desk at the front. I inferred that this was the teacher's desk. Maps and posters with cool designs lined the walls. There were two blackboards in the room, and one of them had the coolest artwork on it. It was a drawing of two people who seemed to be hippies lying in grass and around cherry blossoms. It was captioned 'Imagine Peace'. Black and white paper lanterns were hanging from the ceiling. On the teacher's desk was a globe, neat stacks of paper, and a crystal plaque engraved Mr. Fuentes.

Most of the class was already seated and the room was filled with the sound of teenagers chattering. The bell rung signaling the beginning of class and at the same moment, a man walked into the room. He was dressed in a blue button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the first and second button undone. He paired this with a pair of tight black dress pants and black lace up shoes. He had on a gold watch and a backwards black and yellow snapback. He had tan skin, shoulder-length black hair, and his nose was adorned with a single silver nose ring. This man introduced himself as Mr. Fuentes.

There was no way he could be our teacher! He didn't look a day over twenty three.

"Hello, and welcome to World History. My name is Mr. Fuentes, and I will be filling in for Mr. Morrissey. I am very sorry about your loss, guys, and you can come to me afterschool or whenever if you need to talk. This year will be filled with lots of fun and I promise that you will not have one boring moment in this class. Because this is World History, we will be discussing the history of various countries, and at the end of the year you will be taking the World History final." He paced back and forth across the front of the room and around his desk. He finally stopped and sat on the top of an empty desk in the circle.

"Alright, so today is the first day so we obviously won't be doing any actual work. I'm new and I really want to get to know all my students, so let's just talk. We can go around the circle taking turns talking about ourselves." He looked around and seemed to be analyzing each of us.

"Alright, who's first?" prodded Mr. Fuentes.

No one raised their hand, so the young teacher decided to pick people at random. I wasn't really paying attention, and when Laurel nudged me, she shook me out of my inattentive state.

"And you, what's your name? Stand up and share something about yourself." he asked me.

I stood up and was about to begin to talk when my friend Jason interrupted me.

"Mr. Fuentes, this is our fabulous homosexual in residence, Kellin Quinn." Everyone laughed, including me, and I playfully rolled my eyes at Jason.

"Haha, Jason. Well yea, I guess. I'm Kellin and I'm gay, and stuff? I mean there's more to me I guess but that's all you kids need to know..." I said awkwardly.

Everyone giggled at my awkwardness and began to clap when I sat down. I looked up at Mr. Fuentes and he smiled at me. I blushed and looked down, and for the rest of the class, I sat in my seat thinking about that smile.
