I opened my eyes in shock as Mrs. Secant took my hands in hers, as a supportive gesture.
"My- my father? There, there must be some mistake! I don't know my father."
The silence in the room became deafening. The secretary sighed, and shrugged.
"Listen, honey, I'm just here to deliver the news. That's the message your mother left. I'm sorry." She got up from the chair in her office that was next to mine, and went over to her desk. She peeked over the desktop computer that was placed on the desk, and gave me a smile filled with pity.
"You can just stay here until your mom calls for you. I'll send a student over with your things."
I shook my head and jumped up from the chair. "No, it's alright. I'll, uh, get my own things. Would it be possible for you to announce my name when my mom arrives?"
"Sure thing, hun. Are you sure you'll be alright?"
I nodded and began walking out of the room. "Yup. I'll be fine. Thank you."

As I walked in the hallways on my way to the cafeteria, the shock began to wear off, and confusion and hurt came along. I had many, many questions. I didn't know my father- I never had. For as long as I can remember, it's just been my mom and I at home. From all the little stories and hints my mom has dropped over the years, I've been able to gather some information on my father, but I've never given him much thought, as he didn't play an active role in my life.
I walked with my head down, walking at a brisk pace, avoiding the students who were rushing to their classes. I arrived at my locker and began to put in my combination. I opened up the locker, and pulled out my English and AP Chem books. I quickly skimmed through my books, making sure I had all of my homework with me. When I saw my History books, I quickly remembered that Vi- uh, Mr. Fuentes, told my class to see him after school, as he wanted us to pick up a worksheet he had forgotten to print out for the class. I internally groaned, because I knew he had a class this period, and I didn't feel like facing a classroom full of people, especially when it was to interrupt the lesson. The worksheet could wait, yes, but I didn't want to be the only one in class tomorrow who couldn't discuss the homework.
With this in mind, I sucked up whatever feelings of doubt I had, closed my locker, and began to make my way to Vic's classroom.

When I arrived at the room, I began hesitating. Should I knock? Should I just walk in?
I decided to do a combination of both. I knocked and simultaneously opened the door slightly, peeking into the room. Vic looked towards the door, as did the entire class. He looks surprised to see me, and motioned for me to stay where I was. I nodded and stepped out of the classroom just a bit."Alrighty guys, class is almost over. I want you to read up on Buddhism for tomorrow, and we will continue the unit on Religions throughout next week."
He left the class with those words, and came met me out the door.
"Let's step outside, yea?" He asked, holding the door open, then closing it when we had both stepped out of the classroom."I'm so sorry to interrupt, but I'm leaving early and I won't be able to pick up the worksheet you mentioned in class after school. May I get it now?" I looked down at the floor, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
"Sure thing! I haven't printed it yet, but I can make a copy for you in a few minutes when the bell rings. I could also scan it and email it to you, if you'd like? What's easier for you?"
"Um, emailing is fine. Thank you Mr. Fuentes. I'll be going now."
I picked my head up and began walking away as the bell rung. Vic caught up to me and tapped my shoulder.
"Is everything alright, Kellin? You're being uncharacteristically quiet." He chuckled.
I smiled uncomfortably and nodded my head.
"Yup, everything's fine, I just have a family thing I- "The PA system beeped, which meant that it was on and an announcement was going to play. Mrs. Secants voiced blared throughout the school.
"Kellin Quinn, please report to the main office."
"Well, that's my cue to go. I'll check my email this evening, thanks."
"No problem."
My teacher gave me a lopsided smile as I backed up, waved, and walked away.-
Hello to all my beautifully amazing readers!!! I have a few announcements.1) I have resurrected from death by hiatus! I'm officially off of hiatus and I will be returning to regular updates. I'm currently out of the country but will return home soon. However, I will be leaving again mid August without Internet access for a while. Therefore,I will be writing but not updating. But I will have new chapters for y'all when I get back.
2) Even though I was away for a year, I always read all of your comments and votes, and I want to thank all of you for your continued support! You guys are incredible.
3) Thank you so much for getting IWYITMUW to 91K!!!!!! And for getting NMETSTS to 16K !!!!! I never ever thought a cheesy little fic I wrote to relieve stress and practice my writing would get that amount of love and support. So thank you. Thank you so much. I love you all.
4) I have a few ideas for stories I want to write after What The Heart Wants.
Idea 1:Kellins family's house burns down, they seek shelter in his mom or dads friends house where Vic is their older son. Like way old. Like ten years older. Idk.
Idea 2:
Romeo and Juliet type fic, but modern day and kellic.
Idea 3:
I played around with Kellins gender and dressing preferences in NMETSTS, but I'm really contemplating doing a fic where either Vic or Kellin is Trans. That's all I have for now though! Idea needs more developing.
What do you guys think? Comment an idea number or give me things you want me to write because I'm always open to new ideas!!
So much love, lu ❤️
