"No Mom! I won't leave you!" A 7-year-old Akami cried as her mother tried desperately to make the girl exit the burning cottage through a small hole her mother made in the wooden wall. It was only a opening big enough for a little child to squeeze through.

"You have to! Even if I would not survive at least you would!" Her mother shouted over the noise that prevented anyone from hearing anything. Akami shaked her head furiously.

Akami's mother looked up with a horrified look and quickly pushed the blond out of the cottage, just in time for her to avoid getting crushed by the burning piece of wood that landed where Akami once sat.

As Akami tumbled out of her home, she heard her mother's last words.

"I love you Akami, always had and always will..."

As the girl stood up and realised what had happened, she screamed into the cold night air, tears flowing down her face.

"OKAA-SAN!!!"

---------

A few days later,Akami returned to where the cottage once stood.

As her eyes took in the remains of her home, her tears returned.Suddenly, she heard a voice.

"My,my. What happened here?"

As Akami turned around, she saw a bulbous man floating towards the ground using a pink umbrella with a pumpkin head attached. The man had round glasses on,and a huge grin that had seemed to have been plastered on his face since forever.

"Mom..." Was the only thing the girl could say.

"I can help you get your dear mother back from that hateful god" The man said.

"Really?" The girl perked up,but frowned again."Who are you?"

The man laughed, "my name does not matter." He conjured up a strange looking contraption that looks strangely similar to a skeleton.

"All you have to do," he started. "Is to call your mother's soul from the afterlife."

Akami walked towards the contraption hesitantly, saying, "mom?" Then she screamed. "MOM!!!"

All the sudden a strange purple light struck the skeleton and it rattled. "Akami?" Her mother's voice asked.

"Mom,it really is you!" Akami said, walking towards her.

"Akami,WHY?! Why have you turned me into an akuma?!"

"Akuma?" Akami asked.

"Yes,now I command you to kill her and wear her skin!" The man ordered Akami's mother.

Her mother tried desperately not to kill Akami, but she could not resist. Just as her mother raised her arm to kill the girl, a bright green light surrounded Akami, blinding everyone in the area. As the light dimmed, Akami saw two metal blades, one attached to each of her wrist.

For the next few moments, Akami did not know what overtook her.She ran to the akuma and slashed it in half. The akuma let out a scream and then dissapeared. When Akami regained her senses, she looked around to see the man gone and blades attached to her wrists.

---------------

For the next 2 years of her life, Akami had been on the run. Stealing food when she was hungry did not help in her situation, in fact it made it worse. Now the police force were searching everywhere for her, forcing her to sleep in dark alleys where no one could see a dirt-covered girl.

One day, she was staggering in the shadows, blood dripping down her leg from a gash she obtained on her last escape from the police. As she walked and walked, she found a metal door that led to a abandoned cellar. Thinking no one could find her,she decide to go down the stairs and explore the cellar.

The second she stepped into the cellar, she was tackled to the ground by a dark haired girl.

That was how she met Sakura.
