I wake up before Cruz. I hurry to the door and walk to Gunter's house to check up on him, hoping that he's better. I knock on the door and wait.
"Tried to escape me, I see."
"I thought you were still asleep."
"Yeah, but the moment you locked the door, I woke up. I knew you were gone, so I followed you. I can't leave you, even if I wanted to. I can never leave."
He was right. A demon can never, under any circumstances, leave their human or else they lose their magic. Demons need magic to fly.
"We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy..." he sang.
"Gunter! He's singing 'Never gonna give you up'!" I yelled. I hated that song. He opens the door."Thank you," I said with relief. "You look better."
"ACHOO!"
It spooked Cruz while he was lost in a daydream.
"Hell, you almost gave me a heart attack with that sneeze of yours!"
Gunter grabbed a tissue and blew his nose.
He coughed and said,"Sorry that I scared you, Cruz. This cold of mine just won't go away. I'm better than yesterday, but still." He went and sat on the couch, covering himself with a velvet blanket with wool on the inside. He signalled me to come and sit next to him under the blanket.
"I'm gay, Ivan, and I know you are too. I knew the moment we met. I love you."
It was a dream come true.
"I love you too, Gunter. I fell in love with you when you let me live with you in the apartment." I blushed.
"I kissed you on the forehead yesterday."
"I know."
I kissed him on the forehead. Cruz stood there in the corner smiling.
"Told you he was gay." He went outside to keep himself busy. I sat next to Gunter under the blanket. We watched 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman'. The movie finished and Gunter was asleep on my shoulder. Cruz walked in and smiled.
"Stay with him tonight. I'll go get your clothes. I may be a demon, but I'm a sucker for love." That was the sweetest thing he had ever said and done for me in a long time. I carry Gunter to his bed and tuck him in. When I went to the kitchen, Cruz was asleep on the couch. I went back to Gunter's room. I don't lie down for I'm afraid to catch his cold, so I sit and sleep.
