It has been a week and still no call back from Lennon Enterprises. I wasn't surprised at this result, especially after shouting at the CEO."I still can't believe you told him off. You could have been living the dream, working for the hottest man in this city, but you had to blow it." Emeline told me as she sat on the floor with Mira, who was playing with her blocks.
"The guy was an asshole! I'm not going to work for some egotistical -" I paused, my phone ringing. I picked it up and saw the caller I.D. as "Lennon Enterprises".
"Oh, shi-" Emeline sat up and took a peek at the screen. "Answer it!" She squealed.
I took a deep breath in, answering the call.
"Hello?"
"Ms. Andersen. This is Miciah Lennon from Lennon Enterprises. Do you have a minute to talk?" he asked, his voice still cold as ever.
"U-uh yes of course I do! What can I help you with?" I asked, tucking a small piece of hair behind my ear.
"Great. I was calling to offer you a job as my assistant. Out of all the interviews I did over the last few weeks, yours was the most promising." He spoke. Mine was the most promising? I pity the other applicants. "Do you accept my offer?"
I looked over at my best friend, keeping quiet for a moment. I needed to think about it. This guy seemed arrogant and he thrives on others' fears. Did I want to work for someone like that? There was already the possibility that we'd fight and I'd end up on the sidewalk with my belongings. If I did accept the offer, getting Mira's cochlear implant would be a piece of cake. If I stayed civil, I could even get her into the Indiana School for the Deaf, which was about an hour's drive from here. All of those things seemed worth it to me, so I said, "Yes. I'll accept the offer. Thank you, Mr. Lennon."
"Great. I will email you the paperwork. Once you receive it, please fill it out and send it back as soon as possible. I would like you to start as soon as Monday. I look forward to working with you, Ms. Andersen."

BEEP BEEP BEEP
My alarm screams at me.
6:30 A.M. and I was not ready to get up. Today was my first day as Miciah Lennon's assistant and I was honestly dreading it. I've heard so many things about this job, how Mr. Lennon was a piece of work and he made his assistant's feel like a little bug that was stuck on the bottom of his shoe. I, for one, knew that today will become a shit show if he decides to treat me with disrespect. My grandma always told me, "If they don't got anything nice to say, give them a piece of your mind."
And I did. My grandma would've been so proud. After laying in silence for a few minutes, I finally move the warm blanket off my body and make my way out of bed. I walk into my closet, looking at all the new outfits I purchased yesterday since I didn't have any casual/professional wear.
I picked out a Dark Blue Pleated Dress that had a high waist, and a pair of Dark Blue Chunky High Heel Sandals to go with it. The fit was quite cute and modest. Right as I place my clothes on the bed, I heard gentle commotion coming from downstairs.
I knew the only people in the house were Mira and I, and Emaline wasn't suppose to be here until 7:30 to watch the baby. I rush into my closet once more and grab the metal baseball bat that I kept hidden. I only ever used it when there was an emergency. Fortunately, this would be the first time.
I take small steps towards my door and open it as quietly as I possibly could. Once it was open enough where I could slide on through, I made my way down the hallway, my heart pounding in my chest. Right as I reached the end of the hallway, I saw a figure move around in my kitchen. Just by the silhouette, I could tell it wasn't anyone that I knew.
I could hear my heart beating in my ears, absolutely terrified of this person. Why my house? It was small and doesn't really look attractive on the outside or the inside. There was just a bunch of toddler stuff laying around, a couch, a small tv, nothing of great value. I didn't live on a bad side of town, and I've never seen any break-in's happen in my neighborhood.
I could hear them making their way over to the hallway. I held up my bat and as soon as I could see them, the bat made contact with their nose. A loud, deep-throated groan could be heard from the intruder, who seemed to be holding their nose now.
"Ms. Ander-!" The yelling from the man ceased as they received a harsh blow to their head. He fell back, going unconscious and I couldn't of been happier. Once I knew it was safe, I moved to the other side of the wall, flicking the light-switch up. I turned and looked down to see that the intruder was none other than my boss, Miciah Lennon.
