Richie can't help but sit by the phone in his house, waiting for Eddie's call. He's excited to talk to his best friend who practically saved his life today.
But the call never comes.
Around midnight, way past Eddie's bedtime, Richie gives up and slowly mopes into bed, falling asleep dreaming of his asthmatic best friend.
The next morning, Richie is rudely awoken by his alarm going off. He smacks it until it shuts up, snoozing it one too many times. After the fifth time, he decides to get up and sighs, irritated that today is Monday. He gets up and throws on his favorite black jeans and a jean jacket with a plain white tee underneath, along with his favorite floral socks that remind him of the old Hawaiian shirts he used to wear before he developed a sense of fashion.
His face is still swollen, but there's nothing he can do about it now. He grabs a muffin from the kitchen on his way out and shoves it in his mouth as he grabs his skateboard and walks out the front door.
Richie loves skateboarding. It's a lot less work than biking, and it looks much cooler in his opinion. He rides the board to school, slowly approaching his friends Bill, Stan, and Eddie around the bike racks. Ben spends most of his free time at school in the library and Bev likes to join him while Mike is still homeschooled.
"Good morning bitches," Richie says.
"G-Good morning," Bill says.
"Goo-" Eddie starts.
"Not you," Richie cuts him off, remembering how he felt waiting by the phone last night. Eddie looks at him confused. "Gotta go to class," Richie shrugs, walking away.
"What's up with him?" Stan asks Eddie. Eddie shrugs, but he thinks he knows why and turns to follow him.
"Are you really upset I didn't call?" Eddie asks in disbelief as he approaches the lanky teen.
"Yes, Edward," Richie says, picking up the pace, "I am."
"I didn't think you'd care," Eddie says, surprised and matching his speed.
"Of course I care, Eds! I wanted to talk to you!" Richie says, exasperated, stopping and turning to look at him.
"I'm really sorry I didn't call," Eddie says, "My mom took me to get x-rayed," Eddie can't help but smile, a blush forming on his cheeks. He didn't realize Richie actually cared about him that much. "I should've told you to ice your face though," Eddie sighs, reaching up.
"Mrs. K is really something else," Richie sighs, realizing he might've been overreacting to one missed call from his friend, "But you're okay though?" He can't help but ask.
"Worried about me, are you, Tozier?" Eddie teases.
"Nah, just wanna make sure your mom will be free tonight."
Eddie shoves Richie lightly and rolls his eyes. Richie smiles at his best friend before wrapping his arm around his head and rubbing his knuckles in his hair.
"Richieee," Eddie whines, trying to escape.
"That's what you get," Richie shrugs, letting him go. He pinches his cheek. "Now have a great day, Eds. See you at lunch." He walks away to his next class as the bell rings. Eddie blushes profusely and touches where Richie had pinched him. God, Richie is annoying, but why do I like it so much?
The morning passes by slowly. Richie tries to focus, but he struggles to pay attention. Instead, he stares out the window, daydreaming about counting Eddie's freckles. What the fuck? Why is he so attractive? Richie sighs. Why am I so attracted to my best friend?
