Maya's POV

I hear the tv playing in the livingroom and the kids are hopefully still busy with their lunch. I really wanted to go jogging this morning but breakfast was a little challenging and Abby was running a little late.

But now is my chance.

I quietly walk to the kitchen to quickly get my watch and just as I turn around Jonah's little whine makes me stop in my tracks.

"Mommy!"

"Jonaaaah" I whine back down to him but in a more frustrating manner. "What's wrong bubba?" I sigh and bend down in front of him.

He doesn't answer me, instead he reaches up to me, while literally climbing on me, hoping I would pick him up.

"Sorry, the movie didn't do the trick"

I look up and see Abby with a guilty smile standing on the other side of the kitchen. I asked her to keep them busy in the livingroom for me to sneak out the front door but in the back of my mind, I knew something like this would happen.

"It's okay" I slightly smile and just hug his little body against mine without giving him the satisfaction of picking him up.

He needs to learn that crying out for us, won't always get him what he wants.

"Jonah, come let's watch the movie" she calls on him with a reaching hand.

"Go with Abby bubba" I urge him on but he just stares at Abby with a blank expression.

"I'll be right back, I promise" I say and kiss him on the cheek before I stand up.

I walk to the front door, hoping Abby can distract him but he cries out for me again. My heart breaks for him and I turn around immediately. I know he won't stop crying and it also wouldn't be fair to leave him with Abby in this state. Nothing she does will make him feel better.

"Okay, okay" I pick him up and hold him against me, cursing myself for giving in.

"Do you want to go with me?" I ask him in a soft tone.

He only answers me with a 'hmm' and I look at Abby who gives me a sympathetic smile.

"Can you please get him some juice?"

"Of course" she smiles and walks to the fridge as I make my way to the garage to get the running stroller.

"So I'm guessing this means I'm only running around the block today." I sigh with sarcasm because I know he will get bored and then he will start crying to come home again.

Fifteen minutes later, Jonah and I are finally on the sidewalk and I'm going at a good pace. It's not always easy to run with a stroller and usually we would avoid doing it but just like today, there wasn't another way.

He hasn't made a sound which is a good sign but I also haven't given him any attention because I know he'll take that opportunity to express his feelings about our current situation.

Just as we make our way through the park my eye catches a car slowing down on the street I am heading towards.

I slow down my pace, hesitant to run past the car but there isn't another way. I can't go back the other way because it'll be too far back to the house. As I run past the car, I try to keep my eyes on the road but I hear the window roll down.

"Excuse me!"

I internally sigh but stop and look up to see a woman in the car. She is wearing sunglasses but even with them on she absolutely beautiful.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your running." She says with a gentle tone.

"It's fine" I say with a polite smile but still keep my distance. "Can I help you with something?"
