New Normal (GxGxG)

Chapter 8

Alex's POV

After a tiring day at work I finally get home. A breath of relief leaves my lungs as I get out of my car. Maya and Stephanie are already home but I quickly walk back down the driveway to look at the front yard.

They started building our wall this week but at the moment they've only started laying the foundation for the wall. They've also lifted the pavement for the gate and it honestly looks shit. The garden is a mess and there are bricks laying on the sidewalk but I know this is just the start.

"Our poor grass, I know"

I turn around and see Maya walking out the garage with the twins on either side of her body, clinging onto her hands.

"Hey baby" I smile and greet her with a soft kiss as my arms wrap around her neck. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay, thank you" she smiles and steps away from me as the twins wrap around my legs.

"Hi bubbas" I smile and bend down closer to them. "I missed you" I whisper and kiss the sides of their heads.

"What time did they leave this afternoon?" I ask as I stand up again and look at the mess in front of us.

The twins immediately run for the grass and we follow behind them, just to make sure they don't run into the street.

"I think about four" she answers with an unsure look and I just nod at her answer.

I feel her arm hooking into mine as I take a closer look at the damage to our garden. My eyes however glance to her hand and I bring it up to see if the badges came loose.

"Are you really okay?" I ask again for  reassurance.

"It's fine baby, I try not to use it as much because then it kinda hurts" she softly chuckles.

She knows she shouldn't use her hand but I know my wife. She and Stephanie probably played Xbox this afternoon which is something she shouldn't do yet.

"So about an hour after you left this morning, I got called in to see the chief." I slightly chuckle but keep her hand rested on mine.

"For what?" She asks and we turn around to keep an eye on the twins as they wander around the flower bedding against the house.

"He wasn't really happy about me stitching up a wound in the ER. That is not my job"

She sighs and softly squeeze my hand. "I'm sorry baby, it's my fault."

"No, no, no" I quickly object to her apology and wrap my one arm around her waist. "It's really not your fault. The nurse complained that I took over her patient." I shrug.

"Really?" She frowns. "But I asked for you before she even helped me?"

"It's fine baby, don't worry about it" I smile in reassurance because I can see she feels guilty.

"But-"

"It doesn't matter who helped you, nobody will stand in my way when my family is hurt"

"What happened?"

We both turn around to see Stephanie walking over to us with a concerned look.

"Hi honey" I smile and wait for her to get closer.

"Who got hurt now?" She frowns.

"Nobody got hurt" Maya sighs. "She got called in for helping me today"

"What?" Stephanie frowns and looks at me.

"Everything is fine" I smile and wrap my arms around her neck.
