WARNING: Description of brutal violence and injuries.
The next few chapters are going to follow the hero killer arc within the MHA timeline. Obviously a lot will be non canon but I'm going to try and keep to the story. Don't worry their will be plenty of romance and fluff.
Enjoy :)
Your POV
I woke up with my head resting on Shota's bare chest listening to the peaceful steadiness of his heartbeat. I blinked wildly taking in the all too bright room. I looked up at Shota and who was still peaceful sleeping his thick black hair a complete mess. I giggled softly at the sight. I slowly and carefully got up as to not wake Shota. After staying with him I learned quickly that he is not a morning person. I made my way to my kitchen to whip up some breakfast and coffee for the both of us. As I'm sifting through my nearly empty fridge my phone goes off. I quickly answer it not wanting the ring to wake up Shota.
"Hello?" I ask quietly.
"Y/n thank god I've been calling have you seen the news?!" My mothers frantic voice comes in on the phone. My head scrambled trying to make sense of what she was saying.
"No I haven't..." I trailed off searching for the tv remote. Finally I found it tucked between the couch cushions. Sobs and muffled sounds filled the phone and I couldn't make out any of it. I turned on the tv and flipped through the channels trying to find the news station.
"Whatever it is mom I'm sure it's going to be-," I cut myself out as I watched the screen in front of me. The healing read, "Pro Hero Solar Flare attacked early this morning by new villain that is believed to be behind recent hero attacks. Citizens are calling him the Hero Killer." My heart sunk in my chest as I took in the news.
"Oh my god is Kenji okay," I screamed into the phone no longer bothering to be quiet.
"They just called me and the doctor said he's in critical condition and had to be rushed to surgery I'm on my way to the hospital there," my mother explained through shaky breaths. I gulped trying to process the information.
"I'll be there shortly," I replied trying to sound strong.
"Ok sweetheart be careful I love you so much I'll see you there," she answered and I shakily hung up the phone. I wanted to crumple to the floor and cry until my eyes were dry and my throat was raw. There wasn't time for any of that. I turned to see Shota standing in the bedroom doorway looking concerned. His gaze turned to the tv and I watched as he took in the information.
"Your brother," he asked quietly. I nodded wiping away a few stray tears.
"I have to go," I said biting back a sob pushing past Shota.
"I know. Let me drive you're in no condition to drive safely in morning traffic," he said slowly as I sifted through my drawers throwing in a pair of jeans and a old UA sweatshirt. Any clothes would just have to do. I fumbled and quickly tied my hair back into a messy bun. I hurriedly brushed my teeth not even bothering to care that Shota was standing there watching me on deodorant. Before I could leave the bathroom Shota blocked my path gripping me gently by the shoulders. "Please let me drive you," he begged his eyes deep and sincere. I sighed, I wasn't in any mood to fight nor did I have the time. He was probably right anyway. I nodded and Shota quickly got ready faster than I'd expected he would. We were out the door and on the road in less than ten minutes. Which if it wasn't for the situation I'd probably be really impressed. But at the moment all I could think of was my big older brother laying in a hospital bed and I couldn't bare it. Kenji had always been there for me growing up, he was always knew what to say or what to do. Whatever I needed he'd slide into the role effortlessly. If I needed a protector he was there shielding me if I needed a friend there he was to play any game I wanted. He was and still is the best big brother I could ever ask for. He supported me through every step of my painful recovery and never gave up and never left no matter how hard it got. I can't imagine my life without him, the thought itself was enough to make my eyes water. Shota didn't say a word but he gently reached over to place his hand on mine as a silent comfort that meant more to me than he'll probably ever realize.
We arrived at the hospital in little under an hour when the trip should have taken two I hadn't even noticed Shota speeding. Shota dropped me off at the front doors and told me he would meet me inside. I nodded and took off booking it into the hospital. I ran to the front desk frantically asking her about my brother saying his legal name and his pro hero name over and over. I could barely form a sentence and the receptionist tried to calm me down but I was already in full panic mode. I felt a hand on my shoulder and my first instinct was to attack but I turned quickly to see my mother's face staring at me with watery eyes.
"Mom," I sobbed burying my head into her shoulder. I was a mess despite how calm and collected I wanted to pretend I just couldn't do it. My mom rubbed soothing circles on my back. "Kenji?" I mumbled out.
"He's still in surgery, it's going to be a long one but the doctor says he's holding strong," my mom said quietly pushing back my hair from my face. I nodded and wiped a few stray tears away. I felt utterly ridiculous realizing the many faces that were staring at me. At the same time I didn't care. My mom gently lead me to one of the waiting chairs that I slumped down into feeling overwhelmed and dizzy. I was relieved to look up and see Shota walk in the doors his eyes landing on me. He approached quietly and my mother gave me a confused look.
"Oh mom this is Shota Aizawa he's my.." I wasn't sure what to label us we weren't officially anything. I mean technically he's my boss, I'd considered him a friend for the longest time, and now we're more.
"We're coworkers but we're also very close," he answered for me after he saw me struggling which I was grateful for.
"I see well my name is Hina did you drive Y/n here?" My mother asked.
"Yes, we were hanging out when she got the news and she was in no condition to drive so I offered to take her," he responded politely.
"My what a gentlemen, well I'm sure Y/ns glad to have you," my mother replied. I smiled softly looking up at Shota.
"Yeah I am," I said softly and Shota caught my eyes. He coughed into his hand trying to hide his little blush.
"How about I get you two ladies some water," Shota said.
"Oh that would be lovely thank you dear," my mother replied. I thanked Shota as well and gave him a smile before he walked away. Once Shota was out of sight my mother turned to me, "My he's quite the handsome fella," she said quietly with a giggle. I rolled my eyes but couldn't help but smile slightly.
"It's complicated," I replied quietly.
"Oh so there is something going on between you two but you haven't had a boyfriend in years so I wasn't sure," she went out not bothering to be quiet even as I tried to hush her. I groaned palming my face with my hand.
"Mom we're in a hospital," I groaned feeling like a teenager all over again.
"Oh don't be dramatic I need to take my mind of Kenji and what better topic than my only daughter's love life," she replied with a wide grin. I prayed that Shota would come back any minute with that water.
"We've had one date mom that's it," I answered while crossing my my arms.
"Really? From the way he looked at you I would have guessed you'd been dating longer," she replied casually.
"What are you talking about," I asked entirely confused. She laughed and smiled a wicked grin.
"Sweetheart that man is head over heels for you," she whispered as Shota came around the corner holding three water cups. I gulped knowing I'm probably beet red. I glared at my mother who looked all too pleased with herself.
"You alright," Shota asked sweetly his dark eyes meeting mine in a way that made my stomach flutter and my skin feel warm. Perhaps my mother was right and perhaps I was already feeling that way too.
