My Best Friend Is a Gootraxian

Chapter 1 // Your Average Scientist.

October 15, 2009.
Liam had been working at Laminax for years pretty much. He was always often busy around the facility doing his daily tasks given to him by higher scientists than him, these scientists writing it down on his clipboard and telling him to do it. Liam didn't mind working at Laminax HQ, although sometimes he wished he didn't have to do all these tasks or visit and contain subjects. Today was not the case though, today he got his own very day off, to sit in his room and play on his phone and maybe scroll around on Twitter, play something on his console, something average.
Liam's thoughts were interrupted as he heard his slime pup trotting into the room, barking happily. The red slime pup jumped into the bed, snuggling into Liam's arms and barking at Liam. Liam smiled a pet the slime pup, he always had a soft spot for slime pups despite all the trouble they caused. Many in the facility called him 'The Pup Father' because of how well he got along with any pup.
"Hi, Cassie! Who's a good boy? You are!" Liam chirped while petting Cassie roughly. Cassie rolled around on the bed barking at Liam and attacking his hand playfully.
It wasn't always like this.
It had been years since Kai, Liam's best friend and site director had died. He missed his friend dearly, even more so he never got to apologize to him. Liam also never got to say his goodbyes.
Liam would shake his head and stop thinking, shutting his phone off, and would rest his head on his pillow. Cassie would wiggle out of Liam's arms and jump at the light switch shutting the lights off, and then rolled back onto the bed and curled up in a ball to sleep. Liam would let the silence of the room fill his ears, as he fell asleep.

Flashback to June 10, 2007.

Kai had been in this Laminax thing for years now, trying to convince Liam to work there. Liam did need a job currently, so after looking at all the emails and talking to Kai about it, Liam thought about it.
Liam did eventually agree, and Kai got him into Laminax HQ for his first training session. Liam was somewhat smart anyways, so he did just fine on all of the tests.
First, they had to go over multiple drills for Power Outages, Blackouts, and a lot of other things. Then they had to go over what certain things stood for such as PO meaning Power Outage. They were told all of the rules such as no releasing subjects, no causing breaches, breakouts, etc.
Liam had just finished training and obtained his very own lab coat. When testing was done, he walked straight over to Kai, the one who gave the test, so he was guaranteed in no matter what.
"You did pretty well for your first time," Kai mentioned, looking over at Liam as he observed Liam's eyes, they were a really deep blue, after all.
"Yep, all thanks to you." Liam joked as he let out a light-hearted laugh. He then adjusted his lab coat a bit, trying to get used to it.
"Yeah, if anybody else was giving the test, I don't think you would've made it." Kai teased as he rubbed Liam's short brown messy hair.
"Bullshit, I totally would've made it!" Liam protested as he laughed, walking alongside Kai as they went to get their tasks for today.

November 23, 2007. (TW!! Mentions of cancer)

Recently, Liam and Kai have gotten into many arguments over Liam not being able to do certain things right or slipping up. Liam did get his very own Slime Pup though, although he hasn't named it yet.
Liam would be roaming through the halls as his pup ran alongside him, completing whatever tasks that were on his clipboard he hasn't completed. During one of the tests on a subject, his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up being rather confused.
His eyes widened as he realized who it was, It was the infirmary. They explained to Liam how he needs to come to see Kai, since due to his newly discovered cancer, he may not be around much longer.
He got somebody quickly to cover his spot in the tests as his Pup hopped down with him, whining and leading the way. They had run through the halls and ran past the flooded area, ran to Support Cove, and found the Infirmary.
Once Liam entered, he heard a flat long beep sound and he ran into the emergency room sector of the Infirmary. He then saw Kai laying there non-breathing.
Liam started to tear up, as his whole world felt like it shattered. Especially since he never got to apologize for all the arguments, and never got to say goodbye. Liam hugged Kai tightly as the tears flowed down his face, muttering 'I'm sorry' over and over under his breath. The pup also whined and rubbed against Kai's hands.

Suddenly, the dreams and flashbacks were over, and the day of October 16, 2009, started.
